Mike Vrabel adds his voice to stay-at-home efforts

In case people in Tennessee weren’t willing to listen to the instructions of their local politicians, perhaps a football coach can help deliver the message.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel joined Nashville mayor John Cooper at his press briefing Monday, as they emphasized the benefit of social distancing.

“As in everything, especially with the Tennessee Titans football season last year, it’s not necessarily how you start, but it’s how you finish,” Vrabel said, via Erik Bacharach of the Tennessean.

Having just made a push to the AFC Championship Game after starting 2-4, it’s a valuable use of a time-honored football cliche. But it also applies to the current effort to flatten the curve of hospitalizations for COVID-19 by the simple act of keeping away from each other.

“It’s important now that we continue all our efforts,” Vrabel said. “We can’t allow all our great efforts as a community to stop because we’re halfway home or we’re close to halftime. We have to make sure that we have the resolve to stay positive and to follow the guidelines to finish, and have the resolve to see this thing through.

“Help one another, help your neighbor, help those people that are less fortunate. Spend more time worrying about somebody else than you do yourself, because I can promise you that there’s a lot of people that have it worse off than what you or I do.”

While the most pertinent information will always come from the scientists at times like these, Vrabel offering his pep talk can’t hurt, as he encourages his fans to maintain their “home” field advantage.

  1. This is a great message from Coach Vrabel, especially since Tennessee’s regressive governor Bill Lee refused to implement timely measures to mitigate the spread of the virus. Unfortunately Lee is a science denier. Kentucky had to issue warnings about travelling across the border because Lee continues to not take situation seriously.

  2. What most people fail to realize is that these “stay at home” orders are not legal or withstanding according to the Constitution, they weren’t voted on by these state’s House or Senate or the US House or Senate, they were handed down by one person a govenor so basically they’re an order given by a dictator and that reeks of totalitarianism which makes them unconstitutional and totally unenforceable, PERIOD! Laws have to be passed by 2/3 of the House and Senate then signed by the governor or President to be enforceable.

Here’s a little known part of the Constitution that shows these “orders” are not Constitutional or enforcable:

    Article. VI.
All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

The key is at the end of the 2nd paragraph: “any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding”.

BTW, this is why “ALL” these state gun laws are also unconstitutional, they try and override the Constitution and they CAN’T, the Constitution is the “LAW OF THE LAND” and can’t be overridden!

Or is it that the governor of Tenn knows that these “stay at home” orders are totally unconstitutional and unenforceable since they weren’t passed by 2/3’s of the state’s House and Senate and then signed by the governor like a law is supposed to be, it reeks of a dictatorship and is totalitarianism, plain and simple! One person doesn’t have the authority to hand down orders without being sent through the proper channels of government, PERIOD!

  5. @Steve: well, why don’t you try to sue the states and bring freedom for all the sufferers?

Hey, research “Executive Orders”. You’ll get your answer.

  8. Steve Cunningham – How about you do this: Get together with your buddies who think your “constitutional rights” extend to infecting your fellow citizens with deadly diseases. Pack in real close together and kiss each other on the mouth. See how that works out for you.

  9. All the thumbs down my comments are getting just shows the majority of people are totally clueless about the Constitution they live under and the way laws have to be passed!

Laws require only a simple majority to pass, not two thirds. Also, governors have the power to declare states of emergency, without going through the legislature, in order to deal with life threatening situations such as pandemics.

You really should take a civics class if you’re going to babble on about the constitution.

  12. @ Snoopy,

Executive order: In the United States, a federal executive order is a directive issued by the president of the United States that manages operations of the federal government.

  13. “What most people fail to realize is that these “stay at home” orders are not legal or withstanding according to the Constitution”

Neither were things like the internment camps in WWII but I bet you approve wholeheartedly of those and the illegal jailing in the for profit prison system of asylum seekers.

Here’s another important statement in America’s history – that we all have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Nowhere in the constitution, the declaration of independence or other documents does it say your freedom allows you to spread a potentially deadly disease that will deprive others of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

If you were only killing off yourselves I’d say go right ahead and Darwin will laugh all the way from his grave. But you’ll infect innocent people and kill some of them, leaving others with permanent lung damage.

    Shame on you

What exactly is your point again? You know, you gotta dumb it down for those of us who only understand the 2nd Amendment.

  15. Texans made a mistake letting Vrabel go. If they would have cut ties with O’Brien and elevated him as head coach before he could leave for another job they would not be in the mess they are in today.

Vrabel is a motivator and you can tell from how his team plays they get their drive from his leadership and energy.

If that is true, then why were the regressives like you continually whining about executive orders signed by President Obama? After all, according to your bizarro world of civics those orders had no effect on you.

“Bishop Gerald Glenn, the pastor of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church in Virginia has died, the church announced on Sunday. Glenn had tested positive for coronavirus, according to a video posted by his daughter Mar-Gerie Crawley.

Despite warnings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to avoid mass gatherings and maintain social distancing, Glenn said in a sermon on March 22, “I firmly believe that God is larger than this dreaded virus,” and announced he was not afraid to die.”

LOL. Nice job copying the first sentence of Wikipedia. At least you did a sentence worth of research. Read more and you’ll see it is there. It gives power to the president or governor some discretion how to enforce the law. There is a check and balance in that EOs are subject to judicial review.

As the saying goes if you don’t like your country, move to another one.
