President Trump to sports team owner: Don’t take out stadium seats

The coronavirus pandemic could dramatically alter sports attendance, initially win no fans present and, possibly in time, a scattered collection of paid attendees. President Trump believes that won’t be the case.

“Your stadiums are gonna be the way they’ve been for the last 100 years,” Trump said during a Wednesday press conference, via Mike Rodak of AL.com. “Sports will be the way they used to be. I told one of the owners, he said, ‘Do you think I should take out seats?’ I said, ‘No, you shouldn’t take out seats.’ . . .

“We’re gonna have it the way it was. We’re gonna be back. This virus will eventually be gone. And if it should show up in the fall, we’re gonna put it out very fast. We have great people. We’re gonna put it out very fast.”

The President has alternated in recent weeks between statements that recognize the gravity of the situation and comments that downplay it. Based on currently available information, for example, the suggestion that a second-wave outbreak in the fall will be extinguished quickly is no more realistic than repeated remarks that gave characterized the risk of the virus as “very low,” and that otherwise made the situation sound less dire that it is.

  1. Have to read the Stanford and USC Covid reports? I’d highly recommend reading them.

  2. “And if it should show up in the fall, we’re gonna put it out very fast. We have great people. We’re gonna put it out very fast.”

    That statement alone is delusional

  3. It was just one person from China though.

So call me skeptical… He didn’t put it out very fast the first time.

  4. Or we could hide in our homes for the next 20 years while everyone’s mental health gradually erodes.

  5. That made the virus seem less dire than it is and cost thousands of American lives.

  6. He reminds me of matt Millen more and more. Both were hired off their TV work, and neither one has a clue how to do the job they were hired to do.

  7. The “Stanford” and “USC” reports have already been totally discredited. They were not true scientific studies.

  8. Well America wanted a reality game show host as President now we’re all on Survivor!

  9. Well the President’s been right this whole time. I’m going to bet on him some more. That’s one thing I like about him is he’s always truthful and prepared. He can handle any situation with great leadership. He has definitely made America great again… 😂

  10. Well, On Feb 26th Trump also said we would would soon be down “to zero cases”. We now have over 40,000 deaths and 800,000 cases. So…yeah.

  11. He sure know how to play hard ball in a business deal….maybe he thinks he can play hard ball with Mr.Covic-19.

  12. Stadiums over 100 years old? hahaha. There’s a few MLB, NCAA, and other sports (horse racing, Indy speedway). And they’ve all been heavily modified.

  13. “I told one of the owners, he said, ‘Do you think I should take out seats?’ I said, ‘No, you shouldn’t take out seats.’”

It’s not that he lies so often, it’s that the lies are so incredibly dumb that disturbs me.

  14. Is there anybody left in America who has faith in Trump anymore? I’m not thrilled about voting for Biden, but at this point I will vote for anybody to get rid of Trump’s kindergarten administration.

  15. I’m tired of winning. I’ve been winning so much since he was elected. COVID-19 has me sick of winning so much.
