Report: Lions plan on moving to fifth overall pick

The Dolphins may have wanted to move up to the third pick tonight without giving up the fifth.

But they may not be able to pull that off.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Lions are “making plans for having the No. 5 overall selection,” which is the pick the Dolphins earned last year.

There have been multiple reports and rumors that the Dolphins are more interested in a tackle than a quarterback, wanting someone from the group which includes Mekhi Becton, Jedrick Wills, Tristan Wirfs, and Andrew Thomas.

The Giants, picking fourth, are also said to be interested in one of those blockers, so moving ahead of them would guarantee a team their pick.

If, in fact, that’s what ends up happening.

The Lions have multiple needs on defense, and moving back a few spots would still allow them to add a Derrick Brown or a Jeffrey Okudah or an Isaiah Simmons, and if they deal with the Dolphins that would mean adding another asset later in the draft.

  1. Gotta take the swing on Tua – Although I’m not a dolphins fan, so go ahead and be dumb

  2. Every move the Dolphins make tonight will have people scratching their heads and asking questions. Then Flores will be terrible again but beat the Patriots and Dolphin fans will keep telling themselves they’re going in the right direction.

  3. To the contrary, I was actually impressed with Flores last year. When everyone thought the team was in tank mode, he had his players buy into his gameplans and came ready to play pretty much every week. Dolphins fans gotta be happier with him at the helm than Adam Gase, thats a guaranteed.

You are right. Everyone did think the Dolphins were in tank mode but, little did we know it was just bad coaching. I mean Flores did lead the Dolphins to their 3rd worst ever season since playing in the NFL.

  5. They could move down to #9 and still get a great Edge. I wouldn’t mind if they traded #3 for #18, #26 and #39.

  6. Dolphins beat the patriots with Tom Brady. Just imagine what Dolphins will do to them without Tommy! The Division is Wide Open and the Dolphins have a Great chance of winning it! That’s why there are a lot of sore pat fans… They don’t even have a QB! ROFL!!

  7. Remember Flores negotiated a long term contract because the Dolphins were that bad! He was brought there to build a real team. This will be his third season. He has cut and moved dead weight. He has brought in proven assets. Now he will draft more assets. This year will be a step in the right direction. Years 4 and 5 are when Flores plan will come to light.
