The Bears opened the week with 10 tight ends on their 90-man roster, but they are down to nine after getting rid of one of them on Monday morning.

The team announced that they have waived Dax Raymond.

Raymond signed as an undrafted free agent last May and remained with the team through the cut to 53 players. He had three catches for 22 yards in four preseason appearances and returned to the practice squad.

The Bears picked up Cole Kmet in the second round of the draft after signing Jimmy Graham and Demetrius Harris as free agents this offseason. They also have Ben Braunecker, Darion Clark, J.P. Holtz, Jesper Horsted, Eric Saubert and Adam Shaheen on the roster.

  1. Bears TE situation starting to look pretty good. Combination of Kmet and Graham especially in the redzone is going to be pretty scary.

  2. Why the hell would you have even 5 for OTA’s, which your not going to have anyway..nice roster management…dabears!!

  3. Why is such a big deal being made about the 10, now 9 tight ends? Graham, Kmet and two more at most will make the roster, it’s not like the have 10 on the 53 man roster. They could have 20 tight ends at this point of the off season and I couldn’t care less.

  4. There seems to be a lor of angst about the number of TE’s the Bears have right now which makes no sense given that we’re no where close to setting final rosters. Is a healthy competition a bad thing now?

  5. The bears offense has been horrendous. Not because of talent but, ridiculous play calling. I’m sure bears fans would just like to see a normal drive downfield getting first downs.

  6. Until today, I hadn’t read the words “Graham” and “scary” in the same sentence in about 7 years.

  7. Some obvious questions that need to be spelled out for the homers that comment on here:

Is there a problem at the TE position in Chicago? Yes.

Did the Bears address the TE position in FA and the draft? Yes and Yes.

Having a stacked roster creates competition? Yes.

Will half of them by gone by the beginning of the season? Yes.

  8. I don’t see what the fuss is about. Kmet is a solid pick, and we do need a decent TE. Graham will be starting with him. Harris is the 3rd stringer, and probably Holtz/Braunecker/Horsted after that. The rest? They gone!
