The New Orleans Saints are signing former Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman Margus Hunt, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

It’s a one-year deal, per Mike Triplett of ESPN.com.

Margus was released by the Colts in March after spending the last three seasons with the team. Hunt missed just one game in three years with the team and had a career-high five sacks in 2018. However, he had no sacks last year and just 17 total tackles.

Hunt was a second-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2013 and spent four seasons with the team before moving on to Indianapolis.

Hunt joins former SMU Mustangs Thomas Morstead, Emmanuel Sanders and Zach Wood.

  1. I’ve always compare any DT to Bob Lily. Lily’s play at TCU could dominate an offense. He could toss around offensive linemen. It was like a man playing against boys. He when on to be a dominating force for the Cowboys.

Next DT that I was so impressed was Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh. He could also dominate a game from his DT position. As a pro, not so much. Suh can be a force in the middle, but not the dominating force he was in college.

That brings me to SMU’s Margus Hunt. Hunt came to SMU as a shot putter. SMU drafted him into playing football. He had to learn the game while playing the game. He had some great games at SMU. He could also be a dominating force in the DL. It just wasn’t as consistent as TCU’s Lily and Nebraska’s Suh. With some coaching at his position, I thought he had the potential to dominate in the NFL. So far that’s not happened for Hunt. His job has been to clog up the middle. Maybe the Saints can bring back that potential he showed at SMU.

  2. Classic case of “Look like Tarzan, play like Jane.”. Guy is a physical freak and a world class athlete, but he’s not a football player.

  3. Saints have one of the best D-Line coaches in the business. Wouldn’t be surprised if they got something out of Hunt.

  4. Won’t be surprised to see hunt take snaps at te or former qb adam trautman take wildcat snaps…bill might be the Edison of pro football, but Sean is the Nikola Tesla. Whatcha gonna doooo…when the mad scientist experiments on you…..brother!
