John Lynch: 49ers up against the cap, not planning any big moves

The 49ers are set to go into the season with the roster they have.

San Francisco General Manager John Lynch said on the 49ers Insider podcast that while he wouldn’t rule out anything, he doesn’t think he has the cap space to pull off any big moves with the handful of good free agents still available.

“There’s always an opportunity to get better,” Lynch said. “We do like where our roster is at. We’re extremely happy with where it’s at. I don’t anticipate anything big coming — and we are kind of nudged up against the cap, as well. So there’s really not a lot of room to go do things like that. That’s for good reason. We have a lot of really good players and we’re extremely excited about that.”

The 49ers are the favorites to win the NFC and return to the Super Bowl, so Lynch appears to have a roster he can win with.

  1. They are not returning to Superbowl. Hangover, and very likely won’t make the playoffs.

  2. John your team is loaded. The only thing that could hurt is the superbowl hangover jinx…

  3. They’re probably already violating the cap like they did with DeBartolo, it’s a fact check it out.

  4. And just like that, the Rams have fallen and here comes Kyler Murray plus D-Hopkins.

  5. The biggest loss to that team is Sanders leaving.

Loosing that number 2 without a super solid number one yet make coverage much easier or kittle and that young wr.

They are gonna have to step up big time. A year worth of tape is out with defensive coaches stuck at home breaking it all down with nothing better to do but study.

If Jimmy and company don’t up their game they are gonna have huge problems.

Sure. With the shakiest offensive line in the league and not enough defense. They’ll win some games, but not a threat yet. Seahawks are the biggest threat to the 49ers in the NFC West and it’s not close.
If the 49ers do what they’re supposed to do, they’ll go 12-4, 11-5 and win the west, with the Seahawks and Rams not far back in the rear-view mirror. Cardinals aren’t there yet, not even remotely close in talent to the 49ers or Seahawks.

  7. They cannot possibly pay Clown 20 million a year for example and it is also doubtful that Clown is better than what they already have.

  8. I said no home field; meant no crowd, because I don’t think fans will be at the early-season games.

  9. Super Bowl hangover is real and hits most teams. They won’t win the division.
