Rex Burkhead “very impressed” with Jarrett Stidham

As the NFL world begins to accept that Jarrett Stidham is the heir apparent to Tom Brady in New England, we’re increasingly hearing that the people inside the Patriots’ facility are confident that Stidham is up to the task.

The latest Patriot to say so is fullback Rex Burkhead, who says Stidham came in as a rookie last year and made a quick impression on his teammates.

Very impressed,” Burkhead said on WEEI. “Last year even though he didn’t step on the field that much, just seeing his improvement every day on the practice field, in meetings. He’s a very humble guy and he came in eager to work right away and picked it up so quickly. I think that is what struck me, how quickly he picked up the offense from the get-go. He’s out there making calls, making adjustments in audibles like he has been in this system for a while. I’m excited for him. Excited for his opportunity. Whoever is at quarterback — whether it’s him, Hoy [Brian Hoyer], whoever — just ready to follow them.”

Taking over for Brady is a tall order, but Stidham has made a lot of believers in New England.

  1. chances are Brady would be benched at some point in the next year if he stayed with the Pats. Good thing he has a stable of studs in Tampa so he won’t have to scramble to keep a play alive.

  2. Whatever the football equivalent of carrying your own golf bag is, that’s what we can expect of the NFL this season.

  3. One thing is for sure, all eyes will be on Stidham. He definitely has the weight of Patriot nation on his back.

  4. I wonder what Rex thought of the pick-6 Stidham tossed on his first and only pass when BB put him into the game last season….

  5. Well duh. Every QB looks impressive in the Patriots system. Stidham would be an average at best QB with any other team like he was at Auburn. But in New England, I would be shocked if he does not win the division in his first year as a starter.

  6. He’s joining a good team, so I expect 9-7 or 8-8.
I think it’s likely the patriots draft another QB in 2021.

  7. I think Stid is poised for a good season. He had a great preseason last year. He had some errors in mop-up duty during the regular season, but people forget that Jimmy G did in his rookie year, too. Every quarterback goes through growing pains.

  8. Burkhead (At 214 lbs!)is a fullback?
Has someone told him he’ll be lead blocking this year? Time to hit the buffet…

How do the Pats do it year after year after year with all these interchangeable quarterbacks? I know Brady liked to take a seat every now and again. He hated playing multiple games in a row. I think I saw him in the hot dog line during the 3rd quarter of a home game once.

You know—they should really show this awesome system to some of the other teams in the league. Hiding it isn’t really fair.

Maybe your Jets should take a peek? I think it might help.

  10. “There all impressive during the off-season.”

So true. But tell me you’re not worried.
