Cam Newton posts workout footage as he tries to show he’s ready to go

Cam Newton wants the world to know he’s healthy and in good shape.

Newton, the free agent quarterback who was cut by the Panthers this offseason after playing in just two games last year, appeared to be moving around well and in excellent physical condition in workout footage he posted on Instagram.

It’s not hard to conclude that Newton wants the NFL world to know he’s healthy, and that he’s still hoping some team will make him a free agent offer commensurate with getting paid like a starting quarterback.

Whether that happens remains to be seen. At the moment, there doesn’t appear to be an NFL team that would offer him its starting job, and there may not even be many that would offer him a chance to compete for the starting job.

Newton still has a couple months before training camps are scheduled to open, so he does have time to find an interested team, take a physical and show up ready to work.

  1. Cam, the best advice I can give you is “don’t dress for the job you have, dress for the one you want”

  2. Nobody’s even made him an offer? He would be an upgrade for a lot of teams. Ouch.

  3. How’s all that “playing dress-up” footage working out for you now, btw? You think teams aren’t viewing that as well?

  4. Cam, what you put into your craft will be rewarded. Thats why you sit here with no team. I seriously doubt he was a good team mate. But it’s never to late to change…

  5. Dallas can sign him, Jerry needs someone to mop the deck on his yacht and keep the Johnnie Walker Blue pouring.

  6. He’s going to have to wait till a starting QB goes down and the backup fails before he’s going to make the kind of money he wants. The NFL ain’t Auburn where he (and maybe other family members) may have set his market value. He’s got to get that “HEY LOOK AT ME” mentality out of his head. He’s still no getting it.

  7. Well I’m shocked. A slew of comments about his wardrobe and a fumble play. Who could have predicted it.

  8. He’s great with the videos, but when it’s live bullets not so much. Did he follow the video of the workout with a fashion show?

    If I could only give a 1000 thumbs up….

  10. He’s not getting starting QB money. No way. Whoever, if anyone, signs him they should do it for the league minimum and put the rest of the money into per-game roster bonuses. That way after he gets hurt playing in his first game the team isn’t on the hook for his huge salary.

As he sits there without a job for exactly those reasons.

  12. Looks like putting “fashion” ahead of team didnt work out so well huh Cam?

Jameis Winston signed for a lousy 1.1million to be a backup …and nobody wants you.

I predict he wont be the 1st qb signed even when somebody DOES get hurt.

If you aint gonna sign him as your starter then no need to have him on your team.

  13. Considering every team has their QB situations settled, the best he can do is wait until an injury or just hang out for the season. No clue why people feel he should accept being a backup. He’s started for 8 years, been the ROY and MVP, taken his team to the SB and put up numbers. Eventually someone will get hurt or be so horrid that he’ll get a call.

  14. Did he include in his workout footage film of him sitting at the end of the bench alone and sulking with a towel over his head?

  15. Cam Newton is less than a mediocre quarterback if he does not run the ball like 8 times a game. Will he risk doing this? Can he do that?

  16. If all of this wasn’t going on, teams would bring him in and he could have possibly been signed by now.

He had the Mother of all shoulder injuries. This wasn’t some rotator cuff. It was his labrum. We saw what happened to Pennington after his labrum injury.

I’m willing to bet more than a few teams are interested in bringing him in but they want to see him first

Who is going to pay starting QB money NOW when it is post-draft and everybody has their starters in place to begin the season?

Maybe because nobody’s called him yet?

  19. (S)Cam sure does know how to keep himself front and center, that’s for sure. Look for him to make the rounds of the celebrity TV shows (America’s Got Talent!! Survivor!!) next….

The fact you acknowledge it will take an injury or somebody else’s horrid play is EXACTLY why he needs to accept being a backup. All his accolades were 5+ years ago which is ancient history in NFL years. He’s been mediocre and hurt ever since then and the injury he is coming back from frequently never fully heals.
