Cameron Brate: A little weird to be teaching Tom Brady our offense

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady was spotted working out with some of his new teammates at a Tampa school this week and one of those teammates shared what it was like on Wednesday.

Tight end Cameron Brate said it is “pretty ordinary” for teammates to get together during the offseason, but the combination of Brady’s arrival as a free agent and the lack of team workouts due to the COVID-19 pandemic meant there was a “different kind of attention” this time.

There was also a different feel to how things played out because the workouts find Brate and other Bucs players working to teach Brady the offense.

“It’s a little weird now working with him at the beginning of his Bucs tenure because we’re kinda teaching him our verbiage,” Brate said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “It’s kind of a backwards way of how it’s probably going to progress during the season with him kinda teaching us about the game and how he sees things.”

It’s been a weird offseason in many ways, including Brady’s move away from New England after 20 years, but any work the Bucs accomplish now should help toward making things feel normal once the team is able to bring everyone together.

  1. What’s really gonna be weird is when you run a seam route 15 yards downfield and you’re out of his range.

  2. I will be surprised if the Bucs make it to the Super Bowl. In fact, with New Orleans in the same division, I’ll be surprised if the Bucs win the NFC South. Let’s see how things unfold…

  3. You guys watch, Brate is about to enter the Kelce/Kittle conversation after this season.

  4. Tampa seems to be everyone’s new team to hate. Last time I checked, they haven’t made the playoffs in a decade, and haven’t made any outlandish predictions about themselves doing so. Maybe lay off hating on the poor lowly bucs, and get back to rooting for the proverbial 8-8 Cowboys like you do.

  5. Tom is too old. The track record of all pro quarterbacks going off to other teams during the twilight of their careers to win a title is 0 for infinity. Will not happen in Tampa as Cameron can’t teach Tom to beat Father Time.

  6. This will blow up spectacurlarly.

Perfectionist Tom’s head to explode come October.

  7. Actually for him to first learn where these guys are at with how they talk and how they play currently, And doing that before he starts teaching stuff, is just good sound methodology.

Peyton Manning would beg to differ.

  9. But Peyton Manning was about 5 years younger in his final season, and really didn’t play that well most of the time.

Boy, 12 is really putting in the time this year, unlike the last year.

Boy, 12’s team is really respecting him and giving him something to look forward to this year, unlike last year.

That shows you how many fans of other teams fear Brady really. The comments always state otherwise, but the fact and volume of the comments shows that the fear is real among those that write them.. keep in mind that whenever you see a given person feeling compelled to repeat the same thing over and over you see someone trying to convince themselves, not others like is usually pretended. There was once a question whether it was the Patriots, Belichick, or Brady that they feared and we are seeing that its all three. When that was all on one team they spent their time worrying about the Patriots pretty obsessively, but when Brady’s move to TB triggers as many as it did to start hating on Tampa like they did the Pats that shows you that they now fear Tampa with Brady there. And the comments show they are still trying to reassure themselves about The Patriots too so its both teams. So to the question of whether its The Patriots organization, Belichick, or Brady that was the root of all these fears the answer is all of the above. You will see some denials but actions have already spoken far more than words can ever change.

True, but i could make a very factual argument that the defense dragged that team to a championship which included Manning being benched during the regular season because he was so bad that Osweiller was the better choice.

Despite the Broncos being 7-2 in his regular season starts Manning’s QB rating was 68. During the playoffs after he replaced Osweiller it wasn’t much better.

I doubt it’s deteriorating arm strength that prevents QBs from being effective after 40. Look at MLB pitchers. I remember watching Phillies pitcher, Jamie Moyer pitch some beautiful games in his late 40’s.

NFL quarterbacks are a lot like Indianna Jones; “it’s not the years honey, it’s the mileage”.

Payton had his head sewed back on when he came back and won a SuperBowl. Before that, QBs took far too much of a beating to make it into their 40’s at a high level. Brady is taking advantage of the new QB friendly rules and may very well extend his success in Tampa.

    We’ll see.
