Quinton Jefferson: Bills have shifted league’s viewpoint

The Bills had not been to the playoffs for a long time before Sean McDermott was hired as their head coach in 2017, but they’ve made it in two of the last three years while overturning much of the roster under General Manager Brandon Beane.

One of the players brought in as part of the continued shuffling of personnel believes that the efforts of McDermott and Beane have had the desired effect off the field as well. Defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson said that he would have dismissed the thought of going to Buffalo a few years ago, but that they were an appealing team when he hit free agency this offseason.

“When you get good coaches, good staff and good players you can shift the culture of a place and the whole viewpoint of a place,” Jefferson said, via Dan Fetes of WHAM. “Now you ask guys about Buffalo they’re like ‘hell yeah I’ll come play for Buffalo.’ Great team, great culture, great fans.”

The Bills also signed defensive end Mario Addison, linebacker A.J. Klein, cornerback Josh Norman, linebacker Tyler Matakevich, tackle Daryl Williams, running back Taiwan Jones and defensive tackle Vernon Butler this offseason, so it would seem that Jefferson’s not the only player who may have developed a new view about playing for the Bills.

  1. Watch..the only “viewpoint” your going to see is the Patriots ahead of you again and winning the division.

When the Bills get a real QB, then they’ll have something going.

  2. It seems like everyone but the Bills and their delusional fan base knows they don’t have a QB.

    Wide right, you lose again.

  3. Haters are just talking to themselves. National media is also on the Bills bandwagon. Top 5 defense, thoroughbred at quarterback, continuity on the O line and an upgrade at running back.

  4. Bills should sign Cam Newton and tell Allen he gets to throw it 10 times a game and do controlled scramble runs on the other 15 drop backs. He would be a asset but one that might get injured mid season, and by then Cam would be ready to rock n roll. Oh what am I saying……Cam wouldn’t be able to handle the cold and the snow.

  5. I don’t see anything shifted, Bills still haven’t won anything and Josh Allen is terrible, they still have a big hole at QB. He had a strong arm but he’s inaccurate as all get out which is why he ranked near dead last in both PFFs and Pro Football Outsiders deep ball accuracy rankings. If he don’t shape up soon they’ll be looking for yet another QB.

  6. I’m here to DESTROY the Bills once again.

I know it doesn’t make much sense that it would come from me, since the Bills have made the playoffs twice in the last three years and the Raiders have made the playoffs once in the last 17 years. Including a few months ago when we choked like an demonstration in a Heinrich Maneuver class down the stretch.

But we have Derek Carr and you have TRASH Allen!

He is absolutely worth paying nine times what Allen makes in a season!

  7. Fact: the Bills didn’t make it any farther than they did with Tyrod and Taylor had better stats, Tylor’s worst QB rating was 5 points better than Josh’s best QBR and Allen’s comp % for passes over 25yds is just over 8% that’s 1 out of every 12 passes >25yds he completes, but the Bills fans really think Allen is the answer, that’s S-A-D SAD!

WHat else is sad is when a team just wants to hang around for 20yrs waiting for an opposing teams QB to retire or change teams, I’ll never have any respect for a team like that, or their fans for that matter, I hope the Pats still win the division and Stidman picks up right where Brady ended, owning the Bills, Dolphins and Jets!

You’re always down on Allen. I don’t think you really watch him play.

You’re definitely really wrong about him. He’s about to have a breakout season w/ Diggs & the rest of that WR corps. And he’s a winner.

And the Bills didn’t “hang around waiting.” That’s a ridiculous thing to say. They weren’t well managed and couldn’t put together a contender, but they didn’t just sit on the sidelines.

Sorry – no way the Pats continue winning the division and “owning.” It’s a new era. The Pats are likely to finish 3rd at best. Allen and the Bills will win the division.

  9. Bills fan here: Allen’s progressed, is it enough with the additions around him to get the division? Possibly. If they can have a run game that ISN’T having him on designer runs as part of it, that would be huge. The Pats are still going to be a tough out, but the Bills have the tools to be a solid team this year.

So what you said in first paragraph makes the Bills look better and Allen look better. If they’re getting as far now with Allen not being up to par where Tyrod was, then where do you think they’ll go as Allen keeps improving? The roster is deeper and better than it was in 2017.

I will agree that fans celebrating Brady being gone and saying it equals a division title is sad, but saying the team hung around for 20 years? Every team in the league has “hung on” for 20 years? You expect when a team wins like 17 or 18 division titles in 20 years for the others to take their ball and go home?

  11. Tyrod Taylor has good stats after sitting for three plus years before becoming a starter…But he is still better at winning than anything the Raiders have seen the last 20 years. Tyrod is a safe QB that won’t lose games due to bad play…He also will never single handedly lead a team to the Superbowl due to above average play.

Funny, all this hate directed at a team that supports it’s community, has never relocated, and has bailed out another franchise…

  12. DBLUV, great post. And how about the fact that during their times at starters their teams are both 0-1 In the playoffs. Sure Carr didn’t play in 16 with the broken ankle or whatever it was, but he got them there. Tyrod is surely a safer and more constant bet at QB, he just isn’t your flashy pocket passer. I remember sitting with one of my buddies who’s a raiders fan at the raiders/bills game in buffalo in 17, no doubt who was better that day, Tyrod. Total domination from the bills

  13. The Bills used to get apathy and pity. Now they get hatred and jealousy. Get used it nonbelievers, the Bills will rule the NFL kingdom.
