Aaron Donald: We definitely lost some big pieces

Rams head coach Sean McVay said earlier this offseason that defensive tackle Aaron Donald was “a little upset with me” when he heard that defensive end Michael Brockers had agreed to a deal with the Ravens in free agency, but that Donald started talking to him again when that deal fell through and Brockers re-signed with the team.

Brockers’ return was a rare development for the Rams Defense this offseason. Linebacker Cory Littleton, edge rusher Dante Fowler, linebacker Clay Matthews and cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman have all moved on from a defense that also saw a coordinator change with Brandon Staley replacing Wade Phillips.

“We definitely lost some big pieces to the puzzle. I think guys just need to step up and fill some big shoes,” Donald said, via Kevin Modesti of the Los Angeles Daily News.

Donald’s presence gives the Rams a centerpiece to build the rest of the unit around in the coming months and the results of that construction will do much to determine the Rams’ fate in 2020.

  1. Maybe Donald should consider a pay cut so they can afford to keep some of them. Going all-in for a few years is expensive.

  2. can’t keep everyone, perhaps, you shouold have thought of that before asking for so much for yourself?

  3. Yeah that happens when one guy eats up too much of the pie! Here’s looking at you, Dak.

  4. This guy is clueless. Someone please explain the salary cap to him. Maybe have a class on how to calculate percentages using his salary.

  5. The Rams window has shut. It shut last year, most of their fans didn’t know it. Sorry but a coach can only carry so far. Need talent first.

  6. I would be very concerned about the loss of Clay Matthews. He made some good soup commercials a few years back.

  7. The list of no-talent players includes Robert Woods, Cooper Cupp, Cam Akers, Tyler Higbee, Gerald Everett, Brycen Hopkins, Andrew Whitworth, Bobby Evans, Rob Havenstein, Austin Corbett, Austin Blythe, Aaron Donald, Michael Brockers, Terrell Lewis, Greg Gaines, Micah Kiser, Jalen Ramsey, Michael Brockers, John Johnson, Taylor Rapp, Leonard Floyd, A’Shawn Robinson, Johnny Hekker, Jared Goff, and Aaron Donald. Did I say Aaron Donald twice? I like Aaron Donald.

If this is a bare cupboard, I don’t know what you’re gonna label about 20 other worse rosters in the league.

  8. Donald is one of the few Rams who earned his pay check last year.

Before Ramsey came along he was the only Pro Bowler on that defense.
