Seahawks agree to terms with Carlos Hyde

The Seahawks were linked with a few veteran running backs this offseason and they’ve settled on Carlos Hyde as an addition to their backfield.

According to multiple reports, the Seahawks have agreed to terms with Hyde on a contract for the 2020 season. No other details are known at this point.

The Seahawks had been connected to Devonta Freeman in recent days, but a report on Friday indicated their talks with him on a contract had hit a wall. Marshawn Lynch recently raised the possibility of another return to Seattle. Hyde’s arrival would seem to make that unlikely.

Hyde’s name also came up in conjunction with the Eagles. The Eagles and Jets have been reported as possible Freeman suitors as well.

Hyde ran 245 times for 1,070 yards and six touchdowns while with the Texans in 2019. He joins Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny, Travis Homer and rookie DeeJay Dallas at running back in Seattle. Carson is coming back from a hip injury and Penny is rehabbing a torn ACL.

  1. Have to believe the Seahawks are not 100% sold that Carson & Penny rehabilitation from injury is going on schedule to return by start of the season. Hyde is a good pickup and I’ll bet he is thrilled to be coming to a “run first team.”

  2. Great pickup. Carroll is always about the run, and using tandem backs more. Plus this season, I would expect more injuries. Staying as the #3 back here is worth something.

  3. Carson will be good to go week 1. Penny should be ready around mid to late October.

Carson, Hyde and later Penny could end up being the best backfield in the game, especially with the threat of Russ taking off too.

    Go Hawks

  4. This was a must have signing. Carson is a beast but takes a beating and Penny is basically on ice til 2021. Quite frankly, Penny has been a bust since Seattle will have gotten below average value from him his first 3 years as a 1st round pick and will be going into his 4th season (2021) having zero idea if he can handle a regular workload without getting dinged up or tearing something.

  6. Funny. Houston offered him 2y/10M… taking 1y/ up to 4M in Seattle… Shouldve stayed in Houston.

Not a lot to laugh about. I think Rashaad gained 20+ yards his last carry before tearing up his knee from a ghost tackler. Maybe Seattle should hurry and extend him so he doesn’t threaten to hold out with that amazing 5.3 ypc average.

  8. Fantastic pick-up. He was a beast and is bound to love coming to a run-first team like the Hawks.

  9. Another perfect transaction by the greatest GM in Pro Sports history. Go John Go!
