Defensive end Jonathan Garvin was the last of nine Packers draft picks last month, but he’s the first to agree to a contract with the team.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that Garvin has agreed to a four-year deal. Garvin was the second of two Green Bay seventh-round picks.

Garvin had 97 tackles, 10.5 sacks and 26 tackles for loss over his last two seasons at the University of Miami. He sat out the team’s bowl game after deciding to forego his final year of eligibility.

Garvin joins fifth-round linebacker Kemal Martin and seventh-round defensive back Vernon Scott as the defensive members of this year’s draft class.

  1. And people say Gutekunst hasn’t done anything to improve this year’s team.

  2. I’m excited about the potential of Gutekunst‘s late round picks. Several were injured and/or didn’t have a pro day but great scouts find diamonds and a few of these gouts would have been much higher draft picks if healthy. It’s a crapshoot past eh third or fourth round and I like what GB has done.

  3. I’m a Giants fan but I’m also a fan of the Hurricanes in college football. Jonathan Garvin is an absolute steal in the 7th. He has all the physical tools to get after the passer, but he just never put it all together consistently. He had better numbers as a junior but the Canes have a strong 4 deep DE rotation so he only played about 50-60% of the snaps. There was some talk about his work ethic and not always going 100%, but in my opinion that was more because the team wasnt very good. I’m not saying he’s going to come in and be a 10 sack guy right away, but I would not be surprised at all if down the road he becomes a rotational guy who is good against the run and can get you 5-7 sacks a year.

Welcome to wanting to be irrelevant for 40 years

Who else here can see ariani whispering that to himself over and over, eyes shut tight, while rubbing a rabbit’s foot and kissing a four leaf clover?
