Report: Teams will remain at their facilities for training camp

The NFL is planning for teams to hold training camps on the usual schedule this summer, but it appears there will be changes to operations.

One appears to be that teams that usually head away for camp may be staying at home as the league continues to make adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pete Yanity of WSPA in Spartanburg, South Carolina reports that the league is expected to officially announce on Tuesday that no teams will be traveling to alternate sites for camp this summer.

Spartanburg is the home of Wofford College, which has been the training camp home of the Panthers since they entered the league in 1995. Joe Person of TheAthletic.com confirms that the team will be staying home a few days after General Manager Marty Hurney talked to him about that possibility.

“We’re just looking at all the scenarios right now, and there’s been no decisions made in that regard,” Hurney said. “We’ll just wait and see what the circumstances are and what are the best decisions when it comes down to the health and safety to everybody in our organization. There’s still more questions than answers at this point.”

Ten other teams held camp away from their home facilities last season. One of those teams is the Raiders, who were already said to be considering holding camp at their new facility in Henderson, Nevada rather than returning to Napa. Another is the Cowboys, who have been planning for a camp involving a trip to Oxnard, California as well as for one at their home site.

Funny how with all the rioting and looting, and no one social distancing. There’s been no spike in the Covid virus. Shamdemic.

Give it a couple of weeks

Exactly. The media has a new bone to gnaw on, so Covid is yesterday’s news. The Eagles song “Dirty Laundry” comes to mind. Annnnd, rioting plays better into the media’s “other” agenda.
The world would be a better place without the media and its venom, sensationalism, and misinformation. Unfortunately, contrary to the old saying, apparently most people DO believe all of what they read and 1/2 of what they hear.

  3. So let me get this right…It’s safer if they stay home.

At home: Players wife goes to store, gets infected, infects player then player infects team.

    Vs.

Quarantined in a college dorm: Only teammates, coaches and staff members, that are tested have temps taken daily, no outside visitors and of course if you leave you can’t come back.

This is why you never listen to a man that traded a future 1st round pick for the 43rd pick.

Why is it funny that a disease with an incubation time of 7-14 days after exposure hasn’t cropped up, in less than 7 days?

Were you also surprised today when it was well past noon, but the sun hadn’t yet set?

That the poster you referenced would ever post what he did makes you realize how difficult it is to have progress in any form on any issue when there are so many people like him/her. Believing the pandemic is fake is ignorant enough. But not seeing the point you made is a whole ‘nother level of “insert perjorative”. Didn’t want to use a non PC word less the PFT censors delete my comment for not being sensitive enough.

  6. Any team official who believes no player will sneak out of training camp after curfew this August hasn’t realized that players sneak out at every training camp.

  7. Regarding the pandemic being “fake” according to some, allow me to insert an old saying:

“None are so blind as those who will not see.”

  8. Why don’t they also keep players at the stadiums/campuses to quarantine them from their families and others?

If one dude on the team gets it, they are screwed and the season is lost.
