Last year, Chris Simms wasn’t a fan of the decision of the Giants to make Daniel Jones the next successor to a job once held by Phil Simms. This year, the younger Simms is a believer in Jones.

The guy Simms ranked sixth among the incoming 2019 quarterbacks lands at No. 22 on the list of all NFL quarterbacks in 2020.

Yes, Jones had 18 fumbles last year, the most by any player since 2002. But the also threw 24 touchdown passes, the fourth most of any rookie in league history. And he has shown that he has the skills and instincts to become a very good NFL quarterback, justifying the decision to use the sixth overall pick on Jones and to nudge Eli Manning first to the bench and then to retirement.

The countdown continues on Wednesday’s PFT Live with the next two, No. 21 and No. 20, setting the stage for the climb to this year’s No. 1.

  1. QUESTION for Mr. Simms. Does Colin Kaepernick make your top 40? If Daniel Jones, who was lambasted (deservedly) is 22, then Kap must be at least a top 20 QB and he hasn’t played in years.

If I had to pick between the two, it’s a no brainer. Kap gets the nod. Ya’ll need to stop the madness. If football is a true meritocracy, Colin should be playing.

Kaep was 1-11 in his last 12 starts. Please child….

  3. Jones seems like a decent human being, a good QB in terms of reading defenses and of accuracy and ball placement. That being said, he is and is going to continue to be a Human Turnover Machine, keeping the giants hovering around the .500 mark at best. Gettleman will blame reproduction cycle of the kangaroo for his personnel decision failures.

  4. Daniel Jones is the real deal, everyone questioned this pick but he shut up a lot of people

  5. 18 fumbles??? Dear lawd, this seems like a stretch at the 22 spot. No chance he ranks any better than that next year.

Leading his team to a 3-9 record and barely throwing for 3000 yards is hardly shutting up anybody…..other than the Daniel Jones fanboys

  7. Hot take: I think one day he’s going to be a great QB. The caveat is that he’s going to suffer some bad coaches like Alex Smith had to before getting one that knows how to use his skills to make him that great QB

  8. Daniel Jones showed more natural QB instincts in his first few games than Kap showed in his entire career. Kap is a play-action, two read QB who’s greatest strength (read option) is basically dead in the NFL.

Is Kap good enough to be on a roster? Yes. Is he better than Jones? Absolutely not.

  9. Jones is going to lead the Giants to the Super Bowl long before Matthew Stafford leads the Lions there.Jones is much better than number 22 Simms listed him at.he will lead NY to the NFC East title and the playoffs this season.
