The 2019 comeback player of the year had never really arrived. Last year, he did.

After seven seasons in South Florida that failed to yield sustained success, Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill had a career season in 2020 resulting in a big new deal with Tennessee and, even more importantly, the No. 11 spot on the Chris Simms top 40 quarterback countdown.

It seems a little high; I’d probably put Tannehill behind Kyler Murray (No. 12) and Kirk Cousins (No. 13). But it’s not my list. It’s the list of a former NFL quarterback who has been around the game his entire life, and he makes a strong case for Tannehill.

So check out our discussion of Tannehill’s spot on the list, and tune in Thursday as we break into the top 10 of the Simms countdown.

  1. As subpar as Brady waa last year for his standards, Tannehill’s entire existence revolved around a beastly run game.

If Henry gets dinged, Tenn is cooked as is Tannehilll.
Laughable that you would rank Brady behind Tannehilll.

  2. You can give credit to the “beastly” run game all you want, Tannehill did almost everything right last season. When he needed to, he handed the ball off. And when they needed him to, he threw for 300 yds and 3 TDs. He did whatever was required.

I don’t care who’s carrying the ball, rushing yards don’t translate to a 70% completion rate. It takes a real-deal QB to post that stat.

I watched him shred my team and it wasn’t funny at all. Almost 400 yds, 3 TDs, 78% completion… He could do no wrong, and he was throwing to trash. And they didn’t do him any favors this offseason, either, other than adding Wilson on the line.

  3. IMO I would pick anyone from 12-24 before I picked Tannehill. He had 1 good season after how many mediocre seasons in Miami? I watched him play twice a year against my team and he never wowed me at all. I wish him good luck though, some guys just need a change of scenery. If he can string a few good seasons together, I’ll change my opinion of him, but I don’t think he’s shown enough to rank him #11 just yet.
