Deebo Samuel broke his foot

49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel has been working out with teammates like Jimmy Garoppolo in Nashville recently, but it looks like he won’t be able to join the team on the field when they get to training camp.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Samuel broke his foot during Tuesday’s workout session. He is set to have surgery on Thursday with Dr. Robert Anderson.

Per the report, Samuel suffered a Jones fracture and is expected to recover in 12-16 weeks. That timeline stretches into the early weeks of the regular season, so it would seem likely that Samuel won’t be on the field when the defending NFC champs host the Cardinals in Week One.

Samuel caught 57 passes for 802 yards, ran 14 times for 159 yards and scored six overall touchdowns during the 2019 regular season. He had 10 catches for 127 yards and six carries for 102 yards in the postseason.

  1. Yikes, Jones fractures are no joke. Hope he recovers soon, one of the more exciting young players out there. Also, lol@ the the dr. robert anderson link going to robby anderson.

  2. He was fun to watch last year. Hopefully he heals and is back to help his team out!

  3. BB did it again.

Passed on Samuel and drafted Harry and stole Meyers as an UDFA.

This kind of an injury is a serious problem.

  4. Jones fractures are common. According to wiki only Smith, Johnson, Williams and Brown fractures occur more often.

  5. He won’t miss any games as he will be good to go at the start of the 2021 season.

  6. He’s not missing any games because there will be none to miss. Unless his recovery lingers into the fall of 2021.

  7. He may not miss games, but it still is a setback for his development for the season. He’s definitely going to miss out on a lot of practice, and will need to get back to speed after surgery and recovery. He’s probably not going to be up to full speed and game level until closer to mid-season.

  8. Deebo was a beast last year whose only downside was the occasional drop. But he’s a WR built like a running back and unfortunately this comes with the territory. Hope he recovers soon.

    GO NINERS!!!!!

  9. He’s young and he’ll recover quickly, and 100%. I’m excited about the prospects that this might give Donte Pettis an opportunity to show them what he can do on the field.

I didnt know wrs that are built like RBs are known to suffer broken feet????

  11. He was a beast in the SB, he should have been more involved in the offense. Shanahan outsmarted himself.

  12. This is a tough one since he was such a dynamic weapon both receiving and running the ball in his rookie year. Jones fractures can be tricky so here’s hoping his recovery is speedy and complete. This would definitely be a factor if he is unable to return at 100% or at least close to it this season.

If Aiyuk is as good as he is projected that will at least soften the blow of Samuel missing camp, preseason and possibly some regular season games. But it would have been great to see both not miss any time and to see them both on the field together from the start of the season.
