Tom Brady to throwing coach: Football’s fun again

Tom Brady may or may not have found 2019 a difficult season. He may or may not have gotten worn down after 20 seasons in the same place with the same coach.

For sure, his final season in New England won’t rank among his favorites since the Patriots didn’t win the Super Bowl.

Now with a new team, and reunited with his favorite receiving target, Rob Gronkowski, Brady has been rejuvenated.

“I think the most fun texts we’ve had is when Gronk signed,” Tom House, Brady’s personal throwing coach said in a video chat with GQ Sports. “Tom texted me and said, ‘Football’s fun again.'”

House said he communicates with Brady once a week, evaluating Brady’s throwing motion.

“When he sends a video, I pretend like I’ve never seen it before, and he’ll either text me or leave me a voice mail and say, ‘Look, I just filmed about 20 throws. Have a look. Give me a shout if you see anything, or let’s talk this afternoon or tomorrow. And we’ll do it,'” House said. “We look at initially his timing and his kinetic sequencing, and then the throwing variables that most coaches would teach: balance and posture, stride and momentum, opposite and equal. And then the throwing variables that are quantified and specific to him. He’ll have his [screen] capture in front of him and I’ll say, ‘on your third throw to the left have a look at that, your front side flew open a bit. That’ll just be my eyes talking, and I’ll give him some of the cues that we use in his vocabulary for his teach. It’s just like being there, but we’re looking at video at the same time.”

The Buccaneers quarterback continues to work out with his receivers despite the NFLPA’s recommendation that players stop training together to prevent the spread of COVID-19. But he seems to be having fun doing it.

  1. He’a going to fun himself right out of the league real quick. If they start 0-2, it’s lights out for Brady’s career, if there is even a season.

  2. As a life long Patriots fan some 30 + years before TB12 became a Patriot, I will always consider him to be the GOAT. But last year they has Josh Gordon and AB. When people say they didn’t surround him with weapons is why this team is hamstrung this year. Brady should have gone out on top after beating the Rams.To say football’s fun again maybe you can throw your helmet a few more times when rookie receivers aren’t where you want them.
Will always love TB12 especially when he retires as a Patriot but lately some of his statements about his thoughts and TB12 are bizarre. Like he can prevent coronavirus?

  3. We may never see another player as dedicated to his craft as Tom Brady, enjoy and appreciate him while you still can.

  4. Poor little Tampa Bay Tommy..:had it so rough in New England with that meanie Belichick. 😭

  5. We may never see another player as dedicated to his craft as Tom Brady

We may not see another player who is as skilled (from neck up) as Tom Brady :

“Look away from intended receivers after snaps to fool defenders or freeze defenders a bit moment.”

That is how Brady was able to score average 3 to 10 more points per game, that is like 100 points in 16 games, the reason that 2001 Pats offense immediately came back alive with Brady.

Watch any game in 2001, you will find several such plays.

  6. To those systematically born idiots who downgrade :

“Look away from intended receivers after snaps to fool defenders or freeze defenders a bit moment.”

    How can you downgrade FACT?

Watch SB 2002, 3 passes : one from 3 yard line; one is the 2nd TD to Givens; and one in the winning drives.

  7. Aaron Rodgers needs to adapt this kind of coaching. He’s naturally gifted of course, and has gotten away with some pretty awful mechanics his entire career. He rarely sets his feet because his arm is so strong.

Now that he’s getting older and his arm isn’t quite what it was, I’m noticing a lot more balls skipping in front of his receivers. Rodgers needs to start prioritizing working on his throwing motion if he wants to extend his career.

88 passer rating last season. That put him slightly above Daniel Jones and tied with Jacoby Brissett in that category. And now he’s a year older.

Assuming there’s a season I’m not sure he’s going to have anything close to resembling an MVP season in 2020 that Brady fans insist he will.

  9. 88 passer rating last season.

    LOL

Ask yourself do you rather see the offense of your favorite team moving 50 yards with 6 passes, or moving 50 yards with 2 passes?

Why didn’t Peyton, Brees, Rodgers and Mahomes play the way that is good for their TEAMs and for their defenses?

If Mahomes had slowed down a bit in AFCCG against Pats, Chiefs would be in SB.

You think the longer footballs fly, the hard the plays are don’t you?

  10. He knows hes on the way out he just wanted one last nice pay day and a chance for it to all be about him and his brand. Hes happy and you can bet the ranch belichick is happy too!

That has nothing to do with the fact Brady at age 42 was only good for an 88 passer rating last year. In no NFL universe in 2020 is that good. Maybe not even in the 1980s.

  12. Pretty sure he’s talking about having Gronk back. As in, football’s fun when you have actual receivers to throw to and not just the limping corpse formerly known as Edelman. I mean, watching the offense wasn’t fun last year. I can’t imagine playing in it was any better.

2006 Tom Brady with Reche Caldwell (who was a nobody under Brees), 381 points in 16 games, QBR 87.9

2019 Aaron Rodger with Davante Adam and Aaron Jones, 376 points, QBR 95.4

    Who had better season?

  14. GoodellMustGo,

You basically assume that better QBR indicates a QB is better at scoring, that is simply not true.

If Brady and Rodgers both score 27 points, whose way is better for his team (and for playoff)? obviously Brady’s way is better.

–QBR is simply an indication how good a QB is dominating opponents WITH HIS FAVORITE SYSTEM. THAT TELLS NOTHING ABOUT QB’S ABILITY IN OTHER SYSTEM.–

–Some QB play the way that is more entertaining, but in no way does it mean it is harder or it is better for his team.–

Actually, the only way a QB gets superior stats is not changing his playing style through 16 games, which makes him far more vulnerable in playoff.

  15. Brady wasted a historic defense and special teams last season with his poor play, it had nothing with not having fun. Winning SBs is fun and Brady couldn’t deliver.

How can you downgrade FACT? All qbs look off safety’s it’s part of the game to only say brady does this is laughable fact!

  17. a historic defense

That allowed a TD by Dolphins in the last that caused first round bye.

and Jets, Bills and Dolphins scored total 68 points in 6 games.

Find a game that another QB do it. Not dumping after his intended receiver was covered.

If that is the case then in 3 SB losses the D gave up the lead late in the game costing Brady 3 other rings. The D’s poor play cost a historic SB performance by Brady against the Eagles. Of course winning the SB is fun. That is why Brady has won the most of any QB or player ever.

Brady doesn’t throw a pick 6 to Eric Rowe then it wouldn’t have mattered. Pretty much ended the season and then the pick 6 the week after actually did end it.

The defense was just ordinary and the Patriots might not even make the playoffs. Brady is GOAT but he was not good last year. Can’t expect a 42 year old to keep playing like a champ year after year. It doesn’t happen.

  21. Angel Valle,

Find a game by another QB yet?

Don’t try those running QB, give a try on Peyton, maybe you can find several among several games, but Brady did in almost every game. Don’t believe? try any game in 2001.

BTW, remember the pass to Gronk at 2 yard line in SB that set up the TD? Watch it again, check why Brady could throw inside.

When your passer rating ranks you evenly with the caliber of Jacoby Brissett then there’s not much good you can say about that no matter how much spin you want to put on it. He wasn’t good bro.

He wasn’t good that year either. He was also 29 then not 42 so at least we knew he would be better.

With Reche Caldwell, not even a 3rd tier receiver under Brees, scoring 381 points, more than Rodgers did in 2019 with Davante Adam and Aaron Jones.

    Not good? OK.

    GoodellMustGo,

Don’t you think Matt Cassel was good in 2008? then Brady must be good in 2019, because:

#1, the squad Matt Cassel had was the best Brady had.
#2, the schedule was as easy as that in 2019.
#3, Pats lost to Steelers and Chargers, just like Brady lost to good teams in 2019.

I don’t follow. What does a season 12 years ago and Matt Cassel have to do with the fact Brady was not good last year? I have been the biggest Brady defender here over the years and even I can recognize that he was pretty terrible last season. It’s ok to admit it. You don’t lose your Patriot fan card 🙂

  27. I didn’t say Brady was good last season, actually I agree that he was not good last season.

With the 3 points I gave, it means that Matt Cassell didn’t play well in 2008.

Then, from where do you get the confidence for future?

The QB downgrade wasn’t the main reason they missed the playoffs. Their defense kinda sucked. Gave up a lot of points to good teams.

That was offset by the difference of WR group Matt Cassell had over Brady in 2019.
