Cam Newton: I’m excited as I don’t know what

NFL players haven’t wasted any time in responding to Sunday’s news that Cam Newton has agreed to a one-year deal with the Patriots.

Newton also has now responded.

I’m excited as I don’t know what right now!!” Newton said on Instagram. “All praise to God!! Dropping content tomorrow!! I hope you’re ready!! Let’s go Pats!”

The Panthers released Newton on March 24. He now gets a chance to replace Tom Brady in New England.

Newton becomes the fifth quarterback on the Patriots’ roster but by far the most accomplished. Brian Hoyer is the only one among the team’s other quarterbacks who has started a game.

In nine seasons, Newton has completed 2,371 passes for 29,041 yards and 182 touchdowns with 108 interceptions. He has also run for 4,806 yards and 58 scores.

  1. Talk about “out of left field”. I don’t know if he can handle the Pats locker room… but we’ll see now. Hopefully the desire to stay in the league fuels him.

  2. I hope he still has it and I hope he does great.

It’s one more thing that would make it especially painful if this season doesn’t get played. So many big changes in one offseason that would be so interesting to see.

  3. He will get cut before the 53 man roster. This was a publicity stunt. Also, the NFL probably won’t play this year anyways.

  4. Another smart move by Belichick. If he didn’t sign Cam, he would have been pressured to sign Kap. Applause.

  5. I like this move a lot. I don’t think Cam gets quite the credit he deserves and is a more accomplished passer than most people realize.

Assuming he’s fully healthy and can stay that way, it will be a fascinating season in Foxboro.

  6. >dropping content

    That’s his concern?!

While TB12 is becoming acclimated with his new teammates
    Cam is…..pressing the “POST” button

touchback6. Bill didn’t sign Cam for 7.5 million to be a backup. Good for Cam too.

Or Bill has decided to give Stid one more year on the bench to learn. Worked well enough for Garoppolo.

Stidham would’ve probably been beaten out by Brian Hoyer…So he wasn’t even “the guy” before Cam showed up. Say what you want about the guy but he’s a tough, competitive, freak athletic QB that keeps his team in games.

  11. Like the signing gives Stidham more time to learn, But Why does everyone think Stidham cant do the job. Because he was a 4th round pick? Everyone forgets that Brady was a 6th rd pick. And I know all these commenters haven’t even seen Stidham play.

  12. Not a fan of Cam, but if he’s enthusiastic to get to work in that culture and is eager to work and Is able to tone the other stuff down then respect to him. You got your chance now, let’s see what you do with it

  13. I loathe Newton for his ridiculous antics and hope if nothing else Belichick has already threatened to turn him into a kick returner if he wears that Gatorade towel over his head just once.

  14. Upon signing his new contract, Newton immediately jetted to Italy where he is purchasing a new wardrobe featuring Pat’s colors.

  15. I never thought for one minute this would happen, but the price was right, so I can’t say I’m shocked. I sure hope we have a season, because this is just a fascinating scenario.

Though Cam’s persona isn’t very Patriots-like, Belichick admires his play and will work with him on ways to give the media as little as possible while still being himself. Belichick doesn’t care how the guy dresses or what he does with his hair. Cam can go full Dennis Rodman and Belichick won’t mind one little bit as long as he’s doing his job on the field.

  16. Not according to Richard Sherman, Cam should feel and ashamed and embarrassed for signing for vet minimum. Total disrespect, Cam. I think you should hold out before training camp.

  17. I think BB is buying time for Stidham so he can sit behind Cam for one more year to get him ready. Cam will be gone next year and signing somewhere else with a lucrative offer. Notice Cam’s contract make whoever signs him to give up a 3rd round pick to compensate the 3rd round pick lost to the video violation penalty? Either Stidham will start next year or they will draft another QB. Cam will be somewhere else.

Nothing is given at 1 Patriot place! Newton was brought in to add depth and competition to the qb room. stidham is still the favorite to win the job he knows the playbook and has a year under his belt in the system but if he fails belichick has a backup plan which proves the Pat’s aren’t taking like so many other teams like to do.
