Kurt Warner: Cam Newton can do with the Patriots what I did with the Cardinals

Kurt Warner was a league MVP with the Rams before injuries and ineffective play saw him get cut twice and largely viewed as washed up. And then he returned to form with the Cardinals and became a Pro Bowler and Super Bowl starter again.

Warner thinks Cam Newton can follow a similar trajectory with the Patriots.

Newton was a league MVP in 2015 but has seen his production slip markedly since then, and last year he played in just two games. This year the Panthers cut him and it took him until now to reach a deal with the Patriots, but Warner believes Newton is going to get back on top.

I was able to return to form, playing at a Pro Bowl level and reaching the Super Bowl once more,” Warner wrote at NFL.com. “Knowing Cam’s track record and the competitor that lies within him, I would not be surprised if he once again rose to the top of the league.”

Warner solidified his place in the Hall of Fame with an impressive five-year coda to his career in Arizona. Newton may just do that in New England.

  1. After watching Cam in the super bowl against denver im kinda confused on why belichek would want someone afraid to go after his own fumble and basically give up

  2. No one knows how Cam will do this year. Could be a steal, lead the Patriots* to the Superbowl and he could get a big payday in 2021 or he may not make the team. Most likely some where in between.

  3. That’s a very nice endorsement, but Cam Newton is not Kurt Warner. And if you guys saw the super bowl Warner played in as a Cardinal, he played awesome. I thought Warner had led his team to victory, but then Ben Roethlisberger came up with one of the most incredible clutch performances of all time, and won at the last second. It was super human. That takes nothing away from Warner’s performance. He actually played outstanding. That’s why he’s wearing a gold jacket. But Newton and the Patriots could have a good season. Belichick has been caught cheating again. That’s been multiple times caught cheating. Most cheaters get away with it many more times than they get caught. If you think Belichick was motivated to cheat in the past, he’ll be cheating more than ever now. It’s a miracle they haven’t thrown him out of the league. Could you imagine a card player in Vegas getting caught cheating so many times. They’d have banned him from the casino’s a long time ago. The NFL is really asleep at the wheel on this one. They just keep giving him a little tap on the wrist.

  4. I really don’t think a 34 year old Julian Edelman and N’Keal Henry are quite as good a Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin in their prime.

Because he was the league MVP that year, and WAS in the SB.
Hope that eliminates some of your confusion.

  6. IF he’s healthy and that’s a BIG if and takes the coaching like he did in 2018 with N Turner he is easily the best QB in the AFC east and at least a top 10

He was having a really good season in 18 before he got hurt Look at his numbers the first 11 games.

  7. If Cam is healthy, Belichick will get the best out of him.
That offense will have to change with more down the field passing.

  8. People on 06/29/2020
“Cam sucks, he’s Jamarcus Russell, Cam sucks he’s Daunte Culpepper”

Same people in 01/2021 when Cam is MVP
“I knew it all along, he’s such a great talent, he was smart for going to NE”

I’m rooting for ya Cam, as I have been your whole career!

  9. I understand the fans of the other 31 lashing out against Cam and the Pats. Just when you thought that the Pats were done this happens. Last year was the down year for the team. Now they have an MVP QB that is 12 years younger than Brady, an infusion of youth, and cap space next year that is mind boggling. Pats fans feel your pain.

  10. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Bill deploys Cam. Cam and Tommy are starkly different players

  11. I could do what Kurt Warner did with the Cardinals too. It would be like a 0.000000000001% chance but it could happen.

  12. He should have jumped on that fumble in the Super bowl ! Will bring a totally different dimension to the Pats, good luck Cam !

  13. I believe the large amount of negativity Cam receives is because he is a black quarterback. Racist hate seeing a black man playing quarterback in the NFL.

  14. If that’s the case, then the Pats may wish they had signed Cam to more than a one year deal.

  15. Get real far, then lose?
Sorry Kurt, not a Pats fan but even Super Bowl losses are frowned upon more there then they are celebrated after the fact in Arizona or St Louis

  16. Hoping for the best, If Cam buys into Belichick and realizes that football is more important than fashion, Pats can be in for a treat!

So 1 super bowl loss and a regular season mvp way back in 2015 is the base for your comment?…..you think cam would play another down after not trying to recover his own fumble in the super bowl? He doesnt fit the new england or belichek way, hence the confusion

  19. Why Kurt? Did you actually try amd recover your own fumble when down by 6 with 4 minutes left in the SB…..nope I disagree, he wouldnt do it, and the tape proves it.

  20. “Not win a Superbowl”

“You mean lose in the Superbowl”

What losers. Like b/c Kurt Warner and his 377 yards and 3 passing TDs was the reason they lost that Superbowl. Kurt shoulda covered Santonio Holmes better on that fade TD I guess.
