Reports: Raiders made offer to Jadeveon Clowney

The Raiders have are interested in Jadeveon Clowney, just not at a price that Clowney likes.

Las Vegas has made Clowney an offer, according to multiple reports.

That adds the Raiders to a list of teams with some interest in Clowney that also includes the Titans, Seahawks and Browns.

But which team will end up with him? Clowney has indicated that he’s not going to sign until he gets an offer to his liking, and so far all indications are that there aren’t any offers out there in the range that Clowney was hoping for.

That Clowney has taken so long to sign is due in large part to the fact that he’s coming off surgery for a core muscle injury in an offseason when the pandemic has made it difficult for players to travel around the country for physicals with team physicians.

Training camps are opening in three weeks, however, and Clowney may need to take the best offer he gets, even if none of those offers will pay him what he was expecting.

  1. Trade Mack away because he’s too expensive.

Then sign an inferior player for roughly what they could’ve signed Mack for if they treated him decently.

    Great leadership.

  2. If they offered 8-10mill for one year i cant imagine anyone is gonna top that offer.

Im not a huge Clowney fan but on 3rd down when he wants to play he can be very effective and id happily enjoy him as part of the 53 or 55 whatever it is now.

Clowney did this to himself though, if he didnt have a history of taking plays off and nursing minor injuries im sure teams would be backing up the brinks truck.

He could be an elite player if he put 100% into every play hes on the field.

  3. Mack did nothing against the Raiders last year, the Raiders beat them 24-21, Mack had no stats except maybe one assist on a tackle, he’s gone get over it

  4. the Saints are in play for him as well. the New Orleans radio stations are constantly saying we’re gonna land him.

  5. It sounds like he’s going to have to take a one year “prove it” deal or stay at home in 2020.

  6. Clowney has indicated that he’s not going to sign until he gets an offer to his liking

I guess that means his NFL career is over.

  7. He was traded to Seattle a week before the regular season started in 2019. I’m pretty sure that he will now just stay unattached to a team until the same time frame in 2020 since no one threw money at him and the virus will possibly make the season a lost cause anyway. Smart guy if you ask me.

  8. These whispers of him not having the best work ethic are hurting his chances of getting top dollar

I feel like I saw somewhere that Cleveland’s offer was in the $18-$19M/yr range but he’s looking for $20M+

Ummmmm what? Raiders got good value on Mack and dodged a salary cap headache and we don’t even know what the offer to Clowney is but we can assume it’s below market value.

NFL teams know how impactful Clowney in, Clowney knows how impactful Clowney is, just a few random fans who grade DEs by sacks don’t know how dominant this dude can be. Dude destroyed San Fran last year.

I get that Mack is a stud but you see how far that’s taken Chicago. The Bears, once they resume having first round picks, will be picking earlier than the Raiders will be picking the next few years.

  11. Seahawks will sign him as season kicks off. He knows the players/system, so he will be afforded chance to do well. It will be a “ prove it” type contract with guaranteed “no trade” &/or “no franchise” clause. He then will try again, next off season.

Did you see the Bears get killed by the Raiders last year?

    yep, worked out great.

  13. I just think that Clowney doesn’t love football, nor does he have any fire in his belly. Just wants a big payday, go through the motions, milk injuries then retire.

  14. How does a great talent bounce around from team to team while he’s still in his prime? Maybe the Patriots will offer him $1 million, and he and Cam Newton can teach Bill Belichick to stop being so serious about winning.

  15. Clowney isn’t even half the player Mack is and the Raiders were prepared to over pay him for his services. No wonder the Raiders are perennial losers.

Bad news for Arden Key and PJ Hall if he’s signed.

PJ Hall plays inside. Clowney wont be the reason PJ Hall might not make the team.

  17. Mack has a 26 million dollar cap hit this year. I’d bet the Raiders offer to Clowney is a third of that.

  18. Raiders beat the Bears by a FG last year. Which proves exactly nothing about Mack’s value.

  19. The money may be right and he may have already picked a team, but Clowney doesn’t want to go through a training camp. So he will do everything he can to draw this out until right before the season, or the no season.

Based on the last 4 years, it also means he is being blackballed from the game

  21. Gruden made the right decision to get to London early that week, they needed all the help they could get to “kill” the Bears (without their best defender – Hicks) by three (3) points.

Well that would be a correct offer for a guy that only plays 1/3 of the time. Clowney is overrated and injured all the time. He played with JJ Watt and still couldn’t get the job done.

  23. The Raiders signed Gruden to a ten year contract, they had a new staff, a brand new defense, and Khalil Mack never showed up for work, and he was under contract. I’d think a team leader who’s under contract would be the first guy to show up and start setting the standards, No. Khalil Mack never showed up. I’m not saying he’s a good player or a bad player. I’m not saying they should have kept him or let him go. I’m just saying the dude never showed up. He quit on the Raiders.
