Washington Football Team now appears on NFL, opposing team websites

AP

Thursday brought word that Washington’s move to drop its former team name and logo would lead them to play this season as the Washington Football Team, but the rebranding rollout didn’t happen all at once.

Old logos popped up for a while even after the team’s Twitter account was renamed and neither the league’s website nor those of the team’s 2020 opponents reflected the change to the team’s name. That has now changed.

Visitors to the NFL’s website will find the Washington Football Team and its W logo alongside the rest of the league. The change has also been made to the websites of the teams that have Washington on their schedule this season.

Some steps remain, including changing the URL of the Washington website, which has changed the look of the home page to reflect the changes, to remove the former team name. ESPN reported on Thursday that the team plans to remove all digital and physical references to that former name in the next 50 days.

  1. I’m a Ravens fan living in the DMV. I have to admit, they nailed it with these uniforms. The old school look is surprising “fresh”. Keep it. Looks great and God knows this team needs something going for it.

Washington Team Football makes way more sense to me —– “WTF!”

Man you just nailed it for team name THE WASHINGTON “ WTF’” ( Washington Team Football )

  4. In honor of Washington D.C.’s long and proud political history, The Washington Weasels.

  5. LOVE IT! Phenomenal old school vibe with this team name and uniforms. Well done Dan and crew!

  6. Stepping aside from the general fuss of losing the old name, I think they could have just went with “Washington” for the time being, instead of “Washington Football Team.” That sounds so artificial and generic. I have been to some games years ago at FedEx Field and the game announcer in the stadium would say things like, “First dooown WASHIINGTOOOOOON!” He never said, “First down Washington Football Teeeeeeeeam!!”
The addition of “Football Team” to Washington sounds so fake that you wonder if they’re trying to piss fans off on purpose.

  7. The Washington Bullets got their team name because they played in an armory in the 70’s.
That name obviously has far deeper meaning as The Clash would point out in their song ‘Washington Bullets’. The USA, going around the world under the guise of promoting, preserving and nurturing ‘democracy’, would beat and batter foreign governments into submission, prop up puppet opposing govt leaders to align with their “beliefs and goals”, only to have those puppet governments turn on us, time and time again.

To this day, the name still fits, might as well bring it back

  8. Washington Football Team = Snyder martyring himself. Don’t kid yourselves.

  9. I wonder if the NFL would allow them to continue without a mascot. I get this season because of the last minute change but after that. If they just called it “Washington Football Club” or “Washington FC” it would be exactly what they do in soccer like “Barcelona FC”. It would definitely be unique to the NFL. Keep the uniform simple too. They also would be outdoing the Browns with their no logo approach.

  10. They should have named themselves “Washington Team, Football”. Then they’d have a nice, concise and all-too-accurate acronym for themselves. ;^)

  11. I think they should drop Washington and just go by “the Skins”, no reference to color of skin or maybe it could just mean any one of a number of other things!

  12. In my best Howard Cosell voice:

It’s the New York Football Giants vs. the Washington Football Team in a critical divisioanal game”.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

HaHaHa! It’s been along time since the Washington Football Team has been in a “critical divisioanal (sic) game!” Maybe since Howard Cosell!

  14. Sets a new bar for weakness. Could you be more lame than not even have a name? Do these bozos realize that the word Washington is under attack also. This has to be fought. Appeasement only brings on more attacks.
