Michael Thomas lobbies for Saints to sign Jadeveon Clowney

With training camps opening this week, Jadeveon Clowney remains a free agent. Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas wants to change that.

Thomas went on Twitter Saturday, perhaps inspired by the news that the Seahawks had traded for Jamal Adams, and said the next big move in the NFL should be the Saints signing Clowney.

“Clowney to New Orleans or I don’t want to hear it,” Thomas wrote.

All has been quiet this offseason surrounding Clowney, who is coming off a core muscle injury that had some teams concerned and was limited in his ability to take team physicals by the pandemic. At some point, Clowney is likely to sign, and he may prove to be more affordable than most were expecting when he became a free agent in March. The Saints only have about $8 million in cap space, but Thomas wants them to find a way to get it done.

  1. Clowney is a good run stuffer, and worth 10 to 12 million tops.
But with the 2021 cap falling to 175 it would be smarter to save the money. There will be plenty of good cheap players cut next year

  2. The coach is saying Who Dat? Nah, my team is just fine the way it is. Next you will hear Hopkins is talking for him in Arizona. Sometimes players need to just stay out of things that is not their business.

  3. Let’s hope this guy is not the next Antonio Brown. It’s starting to look that way.

  4. New Orleans. With little cap room this year, and already over next year?

No, very unlikely. Clowney will have trouble getting the long term deal he was hoping for. Especially with a reduced cap in 2021.

However, Clowney should have a look at the New England Patriots on a 2 year deal. Pats have some new found cap room this year, and scads of it for the next 2 years. Lots of exposure on an annual contender. Defensive scheme that will highlight his skills.

Be able to hit the market again in 2022 at 29, when the cap takes a jump with new TV deal.

  5. I like Thomas but this is just dumb. Paying someone $20M+ for about eight games (and about three or four players per game in those eight games) is just dumb. He’s not worth it. I don’t understand why these players think Clowney is so awesome. There’s a reason he hasn’t been signed. Worry about your own job unless you’re willing to give up some of your money to sign the guy.

  6. He’s going to have to face facts that He will be a career merc much like Suh in his latter years. Gm’s have grown hip to the overhyped defensive player who overvalued himself.

  7. Clowney is the only recent #1 overall pick that his team agreed to pay his salary after they traded him. Dude needs to realize he is not a $20 million player.

  8. Please sign the Clown. The New Orleans need a player of his limited work ethic.

  9. sorry, can’t afford him michael you took all the cap room, don’t you remember?
