Bradley McDougald, Jadeveon Clowney discuss reunion as teammates with Jets

Jadeveon Clowney is still trying to find a team willing to bring him onto their roster this offseason over four months into becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Clowney’s market in free agency never materialized to the degree he may have originally anticipated. Despite still being our best remaining unsigned free agent from the Top 100, training camps are set to open across the NFL without Clowney having a team to play for at the moment.

Earlier this offseason it was reported that the Jets may have some interest in Clowney’s services. That interest was lukewarm at best. Nevertheless, now that former Seattle teammate Bradley McDougald is with the Jets, there may be some further campaigning to get Clowney to New York.

In a post to his Twitter account, McDougald said he spoke with Clowney with the free agent defensive end prodding McDougald to tell the Jets to “come and get him.”

McDougald was supportive of Clowney’s suggestion.

“Let’s make it happen” he wrote.

While the Jets would have the cap space to get such a deal done with Clowney, there may not be much incentive to use it after trading away their best defensive player to Seattle in exchange for McDougald and a haul of draft picks. But if their thinking on Clowney has shifted since June, Clowney appears open to an offer.

  1. Sometimes reality slaps you in the face and it is not met with a warm fuzzy. It is a cold dose that makes you humble and mad to prove yourself. Also it does not help matters when a team trades for you in hopes of signing you and then you turn your back on them. Somebody will get Clowney cheap now and most likely who wants to prove they are still a good player.

  2. If CLOWN-ey does sign with the Jets than it’s only about the money, it shows he doesn’t care about winning. If he was smart he would go to a good team and sign for 1 year, if he has a monster year with that good team it will only help him get his “coin” on a multi-year deal.

  3. his track record isnt good . lack of sacks and cant stay on the field . sounds like the Browns came in with the best offer a while ago and he said NO. as they say watch what you wish for !!!

  4. The Clown has made himself virtually unsignable. He has a history of injury. He cannot be counted on. And he carefully chooses when he’ll show up. He has a very low work ethic.

  5. I hope Clowney signs with the Jets. He would have more of an impact on the field than Adams did. They even had the same number of interceptions last season.

  6. The Jets should tell McDougald that if he wants the Jets to sign Clowney then they can cut him and sign Clowney. Then let’s see how much he wants Clowney in NY.

Frankly, I doubt there’s going to be much interest in Clowney this year. His only chance is to get a one-year prove-it deal but I doubt it would be for much guaranteed money and mostly with incentives. That’s the only way a team will get production out of him.

  7. I’d like to see Clowney back in Seattle but I don’t trust his health . He wants a ton of money I think the risk is just too high .

    _____________

Not really. Adams had twice the number of sacks that Clowney, a d-end, had.
