J.K. Dobbins shocked by draft fall, but thinks Ravens are the right team for him

When he decided to leave Ohio State and enter the 2020 NFL draft, J.K. Dobbins didn’t think 54 players would be drafted ahead of him. But he’s satisfied with where he ended up.

Dobbins, a running back who is now beginning his rookie training camp with the Ravens, said today that he’s motivated to show that he should have been taken a lot higher than 55th overall, where the Ravens got him in the second round of the draft.

“I don’t need any fuel but it added fuel. It was kind of shocking but I fell to the right team,” Dobbins said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.

It’s easy to see why a running back would view the Ravens as the right team for him, given that they set an NFL record with 3,296 rushing yards last season. But Dobbins also knows he’s going to have to earn his carries while sharing a backfield with Mark Ingram, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill.

“My role is predicated on how I practice and play,” Dobbins said.

The Ravens hope Dobbins practices and plays in a way that makes other teams regret passing on him.

  1. The Ravens were idiots for not selecting Antonio Gibson instead. Gibson, who went a round later, is bigger, faster, shiftier and just plain better than Dobbins. Baltimore’s loss was Washington’s gain.

  2. This guy is a smaller version of Zeke Eliot. He’s a beast. Still cant believe Ravens got him.

  3. Touchback6……..Overrated OSU players? Whatever you are on pass some this way please. Best(arguably) WR in the NFL, from OSU. 3 top 10 CB’s and more to come, from OSU, multiple top DL and DE in the NFL, from OSU. Let me guess, you are one of those chest pounding SEC guys? Yeah, move along moron.

So The Ravens are supposed to take notes on how Washington drafts players? That’s

hilarious. The Ravens have signed better players after the draft then Washington actually

    drafts with their picks.

  5. if a player falls to the Ravens they will almost always take the player regardless of need – doesn’t mean it always works out but… outside of WR they have been solid in their drafting since the beginning – hopefully with the last two drafts they have begun to solve WR also

  6. Shocked by fall? He was drafted about where most people expected. FanDuel had the over/under on his being drafted at 49.5. Kevin Hanson at SI had him mocked at #45. Nobody knew how fast he was because he didn’t run at the combine and his Pro Day, like so many, was cancelled. He might have been drafted higher if he had run at the combine.

I am Redskins fan… OOOPS I meant to say Washington Football Team Fan and Dude your comment is dead on and very funny! However, I will say their is a new sheriff in town and his name is Ron Rivera. So i would venture to say that going forward, I sincerely hope you are dead wrong!

  8. Trentdilfer08 — Dobbins is a Trent Dilfer level talent. While the Ravens get a second rate OSU talent like Dobbins, the Washington Football Team get the elite Buckeyes like Haskins, Young, and MacLaren. That explains why the Ravens are always one and done in the Playoffs while Washington is poised to win the Super Bowl this year. Huge difference in the franchises, kind of like the difference between Trent Dilfer and Sonny Jurgensen. Not hatin’ just sayin’.

  9. Little 10! running backs have weak ankles and thighs. Derrick Henry, now that’s a GROWN-ASS MAN!!! WOW!!!!

Dude, I’m a Washington Fan as objective as it gets but…..
You are mixing in good talent with “horrible, ,unprofessional coaching”. The Redskins have above average talent on defense and with Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio we will finally be able to release the beast that we have on defense. Also, if memory serves me correctly, the last time Washington played the Ravens was in Baltimore and was a Washington WIN. I don’t expect 2020 to net us more than 5-6 wins because Ron Rivera has said that he wants to see what he has before he starts dishing out money. In 2021 we trust.

    Signed, Washington Fan
    5 Superbowl appearances
    3 Wins

  11. I think in a few years everyone will look back at the RB’S from this years draft and say there was some really good ones that came out that year. I think of course KC, GB and Baltimore got the top 3. But time will tell and I wish them all the best going forward.

  12. BWDGR makes good points but he is mistaken on one thing — the only way Washington ends up with just 6 wins is if Covid ends the season before week 7.
