Seahawks “very open” to Josh Gordon’s return

A report last month indicated the Seahawks would have interest in re-signing wide receiver Josh Gordon if he is reinstated by the NFL and head coach Pete Carroll confirmed as much on Monday.

Gordon was playing for the Seahawks when he was suspended by the league for the fifth time in December. The wideout applied for reinstatement from that indefinite suspension in June and will be an unrestricted free agent if the league moves to allow him to return.

Carroll said in a conference call that the Seahawks would have interest in his services if that’s the case.

“It’s not in our hands,” Carroll said, via ESPN.com. “Josh did a really good job with us last year. He fit in really well. He was part of this team by the way we opened and embraced his coming to us but also by the way he adapted. So we are very open to that thought, and we’ll see what happens. I don’t know. I can’t tell you what’s going to happen on that.”

Gordon had seven catches for 139 yards in five games with the team last year. He’s not the only currently suspended wideout on the team’s radar. Carroll said the team is also monitoring Antonio Brown‘s situation after he was suspended for eight games by the league last week.

  1. I would not waste my teams time with Josh Gordon or Antonio Brown. Both have two completely different situations but both have had more than their share of chances. What kind of message is the league sending to these young players coming in. I hope both of them get the help they need to go on and live productive lives, but enough already.

  2. And that’s why they’re the greatest one year dynasty the world of sports has ever seen

  3. Carroll would sign Norman Bates if he thought it would help him win an extra game. Biggest phony in sports!!

  4. Normally I would say this guy had his chances and smoked them all, but didn’t they decide to no longer suspend guys for weed?

If it’s allowed now, then he should get a clean slate.

  5. What is the over/under on him playing at least 8 games before he’s suspended again?

    Seattle.
Where the NFL head case WR’s go.

So other than Percy Harvin and Josh Gordon…who exactly are you referring to? The comment makes it sound like every WR with any sort of issue has ended up in Seattle. 2 guys is hardly enough to make such a claim.

I think most of us agree with ya but it’s been a worst kept secret that it isn’t just weed with Josh so you gotta take it with a grain of salt unfortunately. Buyers beware.

  8. As of Gordon, just because of weed. Sad story. But now that the league is more permissive on it.

  9. Mental health issues should be treated the same. Both Josh Gordon and Antonio Brown had mental health issues. Josh is not treated as severe regarding his constant issues as Antonio Brown. Brown should have received time served for the 14 months that no team was willing to sign him. Antonio obviously needed therapy and the right counseling to deal with his mental health issues. However the NFL has given Antonio severe punishment for his mental health issues.

That would truly be crazy if he came back and finished out a great career never having another issue while also never changing a thing with his lifestyle from before.

How does that make him a phony? List 10 pro coaches who wouldnt sign someone they thought could help them win a game regardless of off field behavior? You cant, nearly every coach every yr is coaching for their job and will do what it takes and anyone saying otherwise is being disingenuous.

  12. The fact that the Hawks are showing interest in Gordon and Brown doesn’t say much for their current set of WR’s.

  13. I feel bad for guys who have an opportunity but their demons won’t allow them to do what’s in their own best interest. I believe strongly in empathy – these situations are far more complicated than “just say no”. Gordon clearly has addiction issues and who knows what else is going on.

I hope he gets the help he needs and can find happiness and fulfillment in life, no matter what he does.

  14. I would love Gordon back, fantastic compliment to Lockett, Metcalf and Dorsett.

Little known fact, his most recent suspension was for substance abuse, however he had a death in the close family, not using it as an excuse, but that would be just about the worst thing that could happen to an addict. Before that he was doing very well, he loved the city, team and team mates, and they loved him.

I’d have him back in a heartbeat. Every time over AB for sure, wouldn’t touch him with a bargepole

  15. Cheat Carroll. A guy who takes all the glory from his cheating ways and then leaves the program in ruins juuuussssstttt before he gets caught and gets a new, higher paying gig

  16. If you’re a current WR in Seattle you can’t be happy that Carroll is openly pining for a narcissist diva and a drug-addict to come replace you.

  17. No offense to Josh Gordon, but it must be nice to consistently violate your employer’s code of conduct policies and still be granted an opportunity to come back and seek employment.

I’m definitely jealous, it has never worked that way for me, but I’m not a a professional athlete either.

  18. If you’ve been suspended 5 times I think it’s pretty likely you’re going to end up getting suspended again. I understand that he has a right to pursue his livelihood, but maybe Josh should take a step back and think about putting his sobriety first. Otherwise I fear that he will continue to use and things won’t end well.

  19. Seahawks would have interest in re-signing wide receiver Josh Gordon, what are the odd’s that he will stay longer than 2 games without a relapse

Lockett and Metcalf have absolutely nothing to worry about. CURRENT Brown and CURRENT Gordon aren’t taking either of their jobs.

That said…I want absolutely nothing to do with Brown. Gordon I’d have no issue with bringing back, but as always you have to temper expectations given his past.

He has shown up late to team practice, convicted of DUI, tested positive for PEDs and stepped away for mental health reasons. Tell me again again about finishing out a career without changing a thing. Why are there so many people in this comment section that believe all he has done was smoke dope?

  22. Imagine if “science” determines that hallucinogens like marijuana help prevent/treat COVID-19. The 2020 season could get very entertaining.

  23. Ionce Gordon is back & reinstated the rest of SEAs players will be like

    “anyone seen my Adderall”

  24. He didn’t get a lot of balls his way on the Seahawks last year, but when he did he made some great, clutch catches. If the NFL isn’t suspending for weed anymore, he should be able to avoid trouble.

The Seahawks are trying to force the ball to DK to try and create a superstar out of him, but they still need another receiver or two. I’d love to see Gordon get another shot and it’d be pretty fun if they brought in AB for the last half of the season too.
