Pac-12 follows Big 10’s play, cancels football in fall

The Power Five is now down to three.

Per multiple reports, the Pac-12 Conference has decided to shelve football for the fall, with the hopes of playing in the spring.

They follow the lead of the Big 10, which was the first to make the call earlier today. The Pac-12 has a press conference called for later this afternoon.

While the SEC and ACC and Big 12 seem to be looking for ways to hang on, the simple reality is the fall season is going to be a hash, whether it’s safe to play or not (and ignoring the question of whether it will be any safer in the spring).

That raises so many questions for the future of top players in those conferences, and for the NFL as everyone tries to navigate the next steps.

  1. Not surprised. The issues in college football run much deeper, and playing during COVID-19 was only going to bring them to the surface faster and with greater force.

  2. These players are going to have a bigger problem in the long run, if the SEC and ACC don’t cancel their season. The virus remains in your cells, even if you no longer have a fever. You don’t want that when you have the chance to become a professional athlete.

  3. Smart move. Too much is still unknown about the virus to risk peoples health (and possibly lives) for a game. Had there been a massive national effort to contain the pandemic, this situation would quite possibly not have been an issue.

  4. I really don’t think we’ll have football this fall, college or pro.

  5. This is complete insanity , we know everything about the virus now and the facts are people under 50 have nothing to worry about .

The regular influenza virus has killed far more people under 50 years of age than the coronavirus !!!!!!!!!

Stop listening to lifelong government hacks and listen to all the experts outside the Washington bubble .

“An analysis pooling data from New York City, Italy, and the Netherlands, for example, revealed that only 0.9% of all deaths occurred in those under 65 years of age without known underlying co-morbidities.

The chance of death to 20 year olds is non existent .

The insanity is your comment. The claim we know everything about the virus is simply ignorant. We don’t even know yet is the presence of antibodies guarantees long term immunity.

Plus, not only is death a possibility, though slim, for 20 year olds, the chance of developing long term health complications from the virus is definitely a real risk. Covid attacks the body is so many different ways, everyone has enough of a risk level that we should be very cautious.
