Who’s under the most pressure in Week One?

Week One has arrived. No matter the week, players and coaches will be under pressure.

So who’s under pressure this week? Simms and I pondered that question during Friday’s PFT Live.

Check out the draft in the attached video (this week, all six of the selections are quarterbacks) and then put your own thoughts below as to who you think will be feeling pressure right out of the gates.

And stick with us all weekend long for all the latest news, transactions, analysis, and everything else happening as the NFL’s 101st season gets going. Because football is back, and we’ve been here every day of every season and offseason since 2001.

  1. How bout fat patricia in Detroit? Given job because hes a “defensive guru” but couldn’t stop a nose bleed.

  2. Yup…its definitely the NFL itself. Tough times ahead for them as the fans speak with their turned off TVs.

  3. Jimmy Garopollo. His contract becomes cuttable after this season, the 49ers always seem to be (undeservedly, imo) lukewarm on him, and a Super Bowl hangover season from the team could bring him to the exit even if it’s not his fault.

  4. To some extent, Doug Pederson. I don’t think there’s anything he can do to get fired this season but another 9-7 or worse (and another year farther away from that SN title) could get him to the position of fire-able. His pressure is that he could lose his untouchable status.

  5. Cam Newton. Trying to fill some very large shoes in Foxboro, and live up to Belichick’s happy talk.

The rest of his career starts Sunday, and a poor performance will shorten it.

  6. Gruden. The Raiders will be huge underdogs against the Saints to open the new stadium. Lose week one on the road and the season could be over just as it begins.

  7. I’d say the Ravens. We know there were rumors floating around that Bisciotti was thinking of firing Harbaugh after the Ravens went 3 straight years without making the playoffs, if this team that has the defending league MVP at QB on his rookie deal and is PACKED to the gills on both sides with amazing talent gets to the playoffs again and goes 1 and done for the 3rd straight year we could see Harbaugh sent packing.

Certainly doesn’t help that Mahomes just did what Lamar is attempting to do last year with a less talented overall roster.

  8. I agree with the couple folks above who mentioned Cam, but Mitch Trubisky is definitely in the conversation as well. If he stinks it up against the Lions, there will definitely be a lot of chatter to bench him for Foles.

  9. Baker Mayfield has too much talent surrounding him to have a lackluster season. He now has a head coach who has a clue.

  10. The NFL owners are under the most pressure to try and convince the world everything is just fine and nothing is wrong with their product. I think the stands would be half empty without covid to be honest.
TV numbers will be brutle for them but they chose to stand with the playes, they have no choice. The fans are just morons who have nothing else to do anyways so they wont be going away mentality.

Can you imagine if, after all that has gone on, Belichick got Garrapolo back on the cheap right as Newton moved on?
