Cowboys continue to be asked about free agent Earl Thomas

Cowboys fans still are clamoring for Earl Thomas, perhaps even louder than they were since their team failed to rally against the Rams. The Cowboys still haven’t looked the free agent safety’s way.

During his radio show Monday, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was asked specifically about the possibility of signing Thomas.

“No, we’re trying to focus on our guys that we have right in the building right now,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “We’re always looking for ways to improve. We don’t talk about players that aren’t on our team specifically, but I can assure you that with the injuries that we have — certainly looking at the game tape and where we are. We’re always looking to make our football team better.”

Darian Thompson and Xavier Woods held down the safety spots Sunday. Woods played all 73 plays, and Thompson played 58, and they combined for 19 tackles.

The Cowboys have injuries at other positions they have to be concerned about finding help. Tight end Blake Jarwin is done for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament; linebacker Leighton Vander Esch will miss 6-8 weeks with a fractured collarbone; and backup tackle Cam Erving sprained a medial collateral ligament, which will keep him out 2-4 weeks.

  1. Cowboys should be more concerned with McCarthy being the second coming of Jerruh’s boy Jason Garrett. How many atrocious calls did he make last night? At least 3 or 4. Can’t wait to see his version of the slow clap. He’ll be using it often this season. Enjoy your $45million/year overpaid QB Cowboys fans. You and Jerruh get the 8-8 team you deserve

  2. Earl at this stage in his career fits the adage the “juice ain’t worth the squeeze”. A declining, self absorbed head case isn’t something the Cowboys need.

(Earl Thomas) is too talented of a player not to be on a roster.

Earl Thomas once had great recovery speed and could cover more ground than almost any safety I’ve ever seen. But he slowed down considerably after the first leg break, and looks even slower since the second.
He’s constantly freelancing and out of position, and his abrasive personality made enemies in locker rooms in both Baltimore and Seattle (at least toward the end).
This guy is a shadow of what he once was physically, and his personality/recent off-field issues make him something of a risk for any team thinking about adding him into their team dynamic.

  4. The fact that Dallas at this point seems to be his only option speaks volumes how the league values his worth, the Earl Thomas with worth is 3 yrs gone

  5. Wait?? A pain in the neck player that isn’t good enough to justify dealing with his noise is not being signed??? I guess he’s being blackballed. Right???????????

  6. Relax. Jerry has made Brazillions by haggling price. As soon as the price comes down he will sign with the Boys!
