Carson Wentz on Aaron Donald: He’s a monster, he’s a game wrecker

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz took a career-high eight sacks on Sunday, and it won’t get any easier this week with the Eagles taking on Aaron Donald and the Rams.

Wentz said today that Donald is the focal point of the Eagles’ offense and they know they have a huge challenge on their hands.

“Aaron Donald, he’s a monster,” Wentz said. “Everyone knows it. Everyone around the league knows the type of player he is and how he can really disrupt an offensive game plan. And so for us, we’re aware of that. Somebody we’ve got to always know where he is, but at the same time, we’ve got to execute, not play afraid, not play timid. . . . He is a game wrecker.”

The Eagles’ offensive line is going to have a huge challenge on its hands on Sunday, and Wentz is going to have to do a better job of recognizing and avoiding the pass rush. Against Donald, that’s no easy task.

  1. Well, maybe if they design some roll outs and not have him sit in the pocket waiting for the long ball to happen he might have half a chance. Absolutely no adjustments made in the Wash. game…why can’t they see that???

  2. Sometimes Carson, you need to hit the hot read if you don’t have time for the deep ball. Sure the Oline was bad but half those sacks were from you trying to extend a play and hurting the team.

  3. Cant believe Philly is favored to win…Dont they know Philly dont have an oline? Aaron Donald is going to kill Carson Wentz!

  4. Yes he is, and when you see him coming, throw the ball away or lay down and take a sack. For the love of god, don’t scramble backwards for an extra loss of 7 yards.

  5. How did all these iggles get injured with no pre-season? Who will be left standing at the end of the season?

  6. Aaron Donald has *never* sacked a Philly quarterback.
    11/5/2014 0 sacks
    12/10/2017 0 sacks
    12/16/2018 0 sacks

So maybe he can finally get one this weekend. lol

  7. Aaron Donald is going to defeat the Eaagles and in addition he is going to hurt them. J. Peters and Lane Johnson it is not going to be pretty what he does to you ywo old guys!

  8. Wentz has never lost to the Rams.

Donald has 0 sacks against the Eagles in his entire career.

Cox has a SB ring, Donald does not.

Rams fans bitter AF right now. After Sunday, they’ll be bitter and PO’d that Donald is still 0 sacks lifetime vs the Eagles and they are 1-1. But thanks for beating the pathetic, always 8-8, Cowboys.

  9. Last Sunday was like the first pre-season game. The Eagles will make the necessary adjustments. Wentz is a baller too.

  10. Donald had never had a sack against Dallas before Sunday. That proved to matter not at all. Stuffing the run, forcing errant passes and sending Dallas lineman flopping onto the turf, he was all over the place.

Donald has never been a player who was defined by his sacks. Might be the most eye-catching stat but the meat of his work is done even on the plays where he doesn’t get to the QB.

Dallas had typically done a good job blocking him in the past. Missing Travis Frederick already.

There are things Philly can do so it doesn’t have to be a total disaster. Double team him as much as possible and employ RB and TE chips. Roll out and get rid of the ball fast.

  11. McVay is 0-2 versus the Eagles.

In 2018 vs. the Rams, the Eagles did an excellent job of getting the ball out of Wentz hands quickly. Hopefully the Rams don’t play the same soft keep everything in front of them (except for the last play of the game….) defense they played against the Cowboys.

In 2019 Fletcher Cox destroyed the interior of the Rams Offensive Line and the the Eagles won again.

Rams should not underestimate this team.

  12. Someone said Wentz has never lost to the Rams. Sort of true. But he’s never FINISHED a game against the Rams either. One start, Rams (Morgan Fox and Mark Barron) knocked him out of the game on a play that was negated by a holding call. Foles took over, and the Eagles won.

Some further details – Donald was double teamed on that play, Brockers was held by his guy but still flushed Wentz, leading to the injury. So, sure, Donald didn’t get a sack. But, well, go look at the tape yourself.
