Aaron Jones: Packers “definitely” are better this year

The Packers have started 2-0 this year, after rollling up 43 points on the Vikings and another 42 against the Lions. After Sunday’s win, I posed a simple, direct question to Packers running back Aaron Jones: Are the Packers better this year?

“Definitely,” Jones said, without hesitation.

He explained that the team knows the offense better this year, and that the players have learned the ins and outs of the Matt LaFleur playbook. They know how to run the plays the way that the plays are supposed to be run, after having time to do a deep dive into all of the strategies and concepts.

I then asked Jones whether quarterback Aaron Rodgers is any different this year. Jones said Rodgers is “more focused.”

That cried out for the obvious follow-up. Is Rodgers more focused because the team drafted a quarterback in the first round this year?

“It’s not that,” Jones said, explaining that the extra focus comes from the fact that the team got so close to the Super Bowl last year and didn’t make it.

Of course, extra focus wouldn’t be as critical this year if the Packers simply had, you know, used that first-round pick (and/or the fourth-round pick surrendered to trade up in round one) on a player other than a quarterback.

  1. 85 points and over a thousand yards of offense in two games. 2-0 in the division. And still we get harping on the draft. Season’s underway. At this point, perhaps it’s time to pay more attention to the play on the field and maybe a little less on the narrative.

  2. Oh whatever…the Packers absolutely suck. SKOL!!!! Oh, God…who am I kidding, I married a freaking Packer fan and there’s no living with her right now. It’s only going to get worse. MN might go 0-16. For Real. And the Pack might win it all…FML.

  3. Matt LaFleur is an offensive genius. His play design and selections are going to be a challenge for any defense.

  4. Rogers polishing up the resume for his new team. Good thing the Pack drafted a turnover machine college QB instead of a blue chip receiver prospect in a draft full of them.

Yes, because 1st round WR draft picks have been lighting it up for years. Right.

  6. Just imagine if the Packers had drafted a first round receiver that is tearing it up like Justin Jefferson is. Why….they might even be 0-2!

  7. Pump the breaks. They’ve played the Lions and Vikings.

The real story is the Vikings D looks terrible.

The Saints will determine how good the Packers really are.

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Love is inactive, pick another whine. Packer receivers are doing just fine, even with Adams sitting out as a precaution. Did you notice? Do you know why? Because the biggest difference among NFCN teams and their expectations for success is Aaron Rodgers. Nothing has changed.

  9. Lol, wait until they play a real team some Sunday, oh, that will be a week from tonight. They have beaten two 0-2 teams cheese head fandam.

  10. The offense has played well, but I’m just as pleased with the play of Rashan Gary and Christian Kirksey and the defense overall. They’re not completely there yet, but each week getting better.

  11. They beat two of the worst teams in the NFL. The Vikings made old Rivers look good. The Lions made Mitch look good. Wait for them to play a good team.

  12. Finally using all the talents of Aaron Jones. Certainly one of the best backs in the league but underutilized for most of his career.

  13. This is year two for Matt LeFleur and everyone else in the offense. So naturally they will be able to do things they couldn’t do last season.
One thing just about everyone did was underestimate the Packers’ WR group. Adams is one of the best, Lazard is a stud, and Valdes-Scantling is a solid #3. With the running game Rodgers has, and as many good pass catchers as he has including out of the backfield and at TE, this offense can be as good as any in the football.

Assuming our TE’s get over their drops. What’s up with that!?

  15. On to New Orleans!

That is the focus now. Let’s hope Tae’s hammy is fine and that Kenny can play. I like our chances if those things happen. It will be a tougher W to get if either of them can’t go. The defense is so much better with Kenny on the field. I really don’t want a 56-52 game, though it would be fun to watch.

    #GoPackGo!✊

Why does it bother so many that the Packers looked to their future instead of the present?Adams,MVS,and Lazzard all look like blue chip recievers this year and Rodgers and the Packers are winning games without that first round rookie reciever who may have turned out to be a flop in the nfl.Rodgers will be around for a long time yet,he aint going nowhere.

  17. The Pack is playing well and you can only play who is on your schedule!however the schedule does present some more challenging opponents that is great mystery of the NFL, you don’t know what you think you know, let the games play out and enjoy!!!

That explains why Thielen’s doing well, too then, since the Vikings drafted a wideout.

  20. What’s getting overlooked is thier o line is becomming one of the best in the League. Wagner was a very good pickup. Bahktiari is All Pro. Lindsey is solid. Lucas Patrick is solid. And they been sitting billy Turner who can play. Also, Runyon looks like he can play too. And Jenkins is going to be the best Guard in the NFL in the near future

    ++++++

Top 5 I’d say as soon as next year. Can’t wait to see him out front on an Aaron Jones screen. didn’t see the games, but would withhold judgment on the lineman until the refs start calling holding again.
