Anthony Barr out for year with torn pectoral

The Vikings won’t have linebacker Anthony Barr on hand as they try to turn things around after an 0-2 start to the season.

Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer announced on Monday that Barr will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his pectoral muscle in Sunday’s 28-11 loss to the Colts.

“Anthony was our first draft pick that we had when we came here and a big, integral part of the defense” Zimmer said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “Good leader. Great guy. It’s tearing him up inside that he’ll not be able to play. But it is what it is, and we’ve got to move on.”

Barr had six tackles in the opener and didn’t have any on his 16 snaps in Sunday’s game. Barr is signed through the 2023 season.

Troy Dye took over for Barr on Sunday and is expected to take on a starting role in Week Three and beyond.

  1. Is the league still testing for steroids and HGH during Covid? Lots of injuries already and we’ve only played 2 weeks.

  2. That’s really not that big of a loss considering his play since 2019. Giving up huge plays in coverage and getting pancakes by Jimmy G in the playoffs.

  3. Perfect year to just lose and go for a new QB! I’m soooo done with potato sack cousins and his ability to not stay in the pocket or step up his game when it matters most.

    At this point…..Tank for Trevor

The Vikings could tank until they secured the first pick of the draft and Slick Rick would probably still trade it away for a couple of 7th rounders and a handful of magic beans.

Three more years of Zimmer. Two more years of Cousins. My team is dead.

You forgot the years of Spielman. Carry on.

  6. “He’s lucky, as I was, his injury occurred early in the season. He’s got, as I did, an entire season to recover. He’ll come back, as I am, better than ever. I wish him, as we all do, the best of luck in his recovery.”

Don’t worry. The Zimmer and Speilman contracts are chump change for billionaire owners. The Wilfs are going to take a hit this year already and they know the fans will not return in full force for more of the same next year. They will need to give this fan base something to get excited about. So Zimmer is an every other year coach right? Can’t coach when the team has high expectations, only when they have none. Cousins will be a very expensive backup if they decide to keep him. The best thing to happen to Viking fans this year is be bad enough to get the first pick, take Lawrence after you have cleaned house of the geriatric coaching staff, GM and begin a new era of FB.
