Patriots roll to 36-20 win over Raiders

The Raiders drove into position for a 40-yard field goal attempt that would tie the game at 13 on their first possession of the second half, but Daniel Carlson missed to leave the Patriots up three points.

Carlson’s miss turned out to be a big turning point. The Patriots scored 10 points on their next two drives and added another touchdown after a Raiders field goal to open up a 29-13 lead with just over five minutes to play. Shilique Calhoun would strip Derek Carr of the ball on the next Raiders offensive snap and Deatrich Wise fell on the ball for a touchdown.

That made it 36-13 for the Patriots, but the Raiders would make the final score a bit more respectable with a late touchdown that made the final score 36-20 at Gillette Stadium.

Rex Burkhead scored all three of the offensive touchdowns for the Patriots and posted 98 yards from scrimmage. Sony Michel busted loose for a couple of big gainers on his way to 117 yards and rookie J.J. Taylor chipped in with 43 yards on the ground.

Cam Newton had a quiet day outside of a touchdown pass to Burkhead. The backs did most of the heavy lifting and he ended up 17-of-28 for 162 yards and an interception.

Carr didn’t get picked off, but he did lose another fumble in the first half and couldn’t get the offense cooking the way it did in their two wins to open the season. They’ll host the 3-0 Bills next week, so the Patriots wouldn’t mind seeing that unit get back on track.

Not that they’ll have much time to pay attention. New England heads to Arrowhead Stadium for a Sunday afternoon date with the Chiefs.

  1. I remember how sure the Raiders fans were before the game.
They thought this was a sure win.

You team sucked for the last 20 years
Your QB sucks and the team will suck for the next 20 years

Oh and I guess JC Jackson was right.
They did have something for Waller… 2 catches 9 yards.
    What a joke

  2. Stunned at how well the Pats Oline did today wow!

They’ll need to play as well or better next week to have a shot a winning in KC

  3. The Raiders’ run defense looks suspect, gashed for over 250 yds.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that Buffalo will come into Vegas with a few new run plays

  4. But but but there’s only ONE nation! And and and.

You got pounded on the ground! Burkhead, Sony, and Cam has HUGE GAMES. The offensive line without Andrews deserves credit too.

Now, onto the gauntlet in Arrowhead

  5. Cam continues to force passes into coverage; 2 and 3 on a receiver and he still hucks it in there.
on one play, an uncovered Harry is ignored-and directly in his line of sight–and he instead throws it to Edelman who has 2 guys on him.

I sure hope he develops his vision and willingness to check down….
Last week, he nearly got Harry killed…who was covered by 3 guys and Cam threw it to him anyway.
To Harry’s credit, he caught it…. but, this is a long season.

  6. 3 turnovers and another ourstabding performance. Just like I said..Take out Waller with a combo of efforts and very impressive work from
    Owenu as a rookie. Wow.

The best OL and RB group in football gets better next week with Damien Harris, maybe James White and adding in Gunner Olezewski at WR.

    KC in serious trouble.

Great win by the Patriots. This team will be right there in the end. #TomWho

  8. Thought the Raiders had arrived. They’re still waiting at the airport.
Was hoping they would step up & put on their “Big Boy” pants. Instead, they left a load in them.

Two bad teams, just like raiders vs saints
    ——————————————————————
I guess the Saints must be really, really bad then.

  10. Paul Gunther has got to go absolutely pathetic showing by the defense. 6.6 yards per carry tells me the defense is not playing hard at all. Also, Trent Brown and his “injuries” need to be addressed. This guy has missed almost as many games as he has played. If he doesn’t want to play, put him on the nfi list and be fine with it. Overall shameful performance by the raiders. They had no interest in playing this game and it showed.

  11. Nate Peterman time!! Been saying for several years Carr can’t lead..just puts up nice stats..raiders Never have won with a qb they drafted..either has their coach..Sorry franchise!!!!

  12. Scoreboard looks worse than it was. That missed FG was indeed a huge turning point, but you could also say Jacob’s “fumble” in the RZ was as well. He def recovered that. Cam looked completely unimpressive, but got carried by the running backs. Good game Raiders, but my Pats win 🙂

  13. Just like I said..Take out Waller with a combo of efforts
    ——————

I know. You were the only person to say such a thing (in your mind).

  14. The Raiders got exposed. Michel and Burkhead gashed the run defense and the defense forced Derek Carr to throw to his receivers. Absolutely beautiful.

    never said I was

i do say it well ahead of any analysts, though

for example, i can tell you KC is in serious troubme next week because NE will bracket Hill with Jon Jones and McCourty over the top on every snap.

See? It’s still Sunday and we won’t hear anyone predict anything until
some paid analyst offers that up.

    JoeJuan Williams on Kelce.

Funny how we heard yesterday NEs D stinks, their LBs stink, etc, yet it could not be further than the truth.

Stidham will never even sniff the field. Great pick up in Cam.

Actually, he had a subat game. But, yes, he managed it well. Anything is better than what Brady did last year, as predicted.

Yep. He needs to work on that and his slow delivery on dump offs/set screens.

Asiasi was wide open on that awful INT.

Romo and Nantz spent the entire first half gushing
over Mayock and Rod Marinelli with Gunther as well! Did you even watch the game?

There is a ton of forced propping up of afc teams, especiallly ones who play NE.

  19. Does p6 try to be @ lying idiot, or is it just a natural gift?
    ——————-

It is all natural ability. His biggest fan is himself too.

  20. I knew pats would score 28/29. Was very close. But I also thought that the Raiders could get the turnover advantage. Giving the ball away 3x will not do you any good. Starts and ends there. Raider D got tired. Short week. Not easy. Never has been.

Typical zebra BS though. Jacobs got that ball back.

See you in the wildcard round.

What did I lie about, Brady Fanboy? Did you those RBs today, the ones Brady ignores using? lol

    Enjoy, Teddy!

As predicted any qb would be better than selfish 2019 Brady.

    Enjoy!

  22. Upthread, I offered a constructive critique of Cam.
    Here, some praise:

Cam demonstrates the ability to hold his fire, move and make something happen.
Last week, that feint to run, stepping back and casually lobbing it in the end zone was exhibit A.
Today, the bob and weave in the pocket and breaking it for a long run was a lot of fun….clearly, he enjoyed it as much as fans did.

We took out their passing game, for the most part, as evidenced by Cam’s unimpressive stats, but our run defense was horrible. That missed field goal also hurt. We definitely need to regroup for Buffalo. Hopefully, we can have a repeat of our first home game.

  24. As predicted P6 will continue to cry about Brady. I am sure you will say Brady’s 3 1st half TD passes today were to pad his stats.

  25. Remember when p6 said McDaniels was an idiotic play caller, holding the team back? 3 gms in with a completely revamped offense, no TE and little WR production. Top 3 in the league in rushing and passing offense. Mr FB strikes again

He’s probably not even a Patriots fan.
No Patriots fan , no matter how impartial you try to be would bash Brady as much as he does.

  27. Did you those RBs today, the ones Brady ignores using?
    ——————

Is that why the Pats were 9th in the league last year with 447 rushing attempts? Apparently he used his running backs quite a bit. Just another made up scenario by you as predicted.

C’mon guys, p6has claimed he’s wired into the Patriots organization. Sounds legit. Totally😉

By “wired into the organization “ he meant he has a friend who has a friend that’s a popcorn vendor at Gillette

  29. He predicted newton was a camp body and Stidham is the starter. Wrong. No excuses about off season either. Burrow and Herbert are doing just fine. He predicted Patricia and O’Brien would be excellent head coaches. Wrong again. The two worst. There’s a lot more. I’ll get back to you.

  30. P6 also predicted Pluto would be ousted from the planetary system back in the 80s. He has a letter he wrote telling all his friends and family to back it up.

The raiders lost because Carr’s inability to push the ball down the field

    ============

Carr has a cannon arm but he has to execute the plays that are given to him from the sidelines. It’s not Carr’s fault that he plays for Gruden who’s preference is short-yardage dink-and-dunk plays. Carr used to air it out on a regular basis when he was coached by Bill Musgrave.
