NFL shifts Week Five Broncos-Patriots game to later kickoff

The Patriots will be starting their Week Five game against the Broncos later than originally scheduled.

The NFL announced on Monday that the game will now start at 4:25 p.m. ET. They were supposed to get underway at 1 p.m. under the initial plans for the week.

Week Five’s game is on CBS and the network has the national game in the late window that week, so the move will likely result in a larger audience seeing Cam Newton lead the Patriots Offense. They’ll also get to see Jeff Driskel, Blake Bortles or Brett Rypien running the Broncos Offense, which may not prove to be much of a ratings driver outside of their immediate families.

CBS also has Colts-Browns and Giants-Cowboys in that window and the dismal start for the Giants may have helped cause the change of plans.

The move means the Patriots will be playing in the late afternoon window for three straight weeks as next week’s visit to Kansas City and their Week Six game against the 49ers are also set for 4:25 p.m. kickoffs.

    now there’s an understatement

  2. Why? The Patriots are awful, have no players or fans, and only look competitive againsst teams like the Dolphins and Broncos.

How so? they have looked quite good in all their games beating the opponents they should and they have so far been the toughest opponent for that apparent juggernaut called Seattle. In Seattle. Im impressed as hell after watching how much of the team they lost and replaced. The only people that can grumble about their progress so far this year are the haters and Belichick.

  4. Anything that takes eyeballs away from the Cowboys, I’m all for it….But that might be because they’re playing the hapless Giants that week.

  5. Another option they had was the currently 3-0 Bills vs. the currently 3-0 Titans, but I guess the better game will be an 0-3 vs. 1-2 snoozefest.

  6. The Bills play the Titans in week 5. At worst both teams will be 3-1 and could be 4-0. Why wasn’t this game moved to the 4:25 slot?

I wish the NFL would stop DEFAULTING to always always having Dallas or PHILLY in primetime, late afternoon and ‘hot’ slots for games. A team like New England even KC has outdone Dallas every single year always and still gets less exposure than them.

  9. Follow the $. It’s not about records. It’s about fans. The networks want to play the games that impress their advertisers the most. Like it or not that’s New Negland and a few select other franchises.
