Jerry Jones: I was dreaming we could draft Clyde Edwards-Helaire in Round 2

If Clyde Edwards-Helaire hadn’t gone to the Chiefs in the first round of this year’s NFL draft, he might have gone to the Cowboys in the second.

That’s the word from Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones, who said today on 105.3 The Fan that he thinks Edwards-Helaire has made the Chiefs even better than they were last year. Jones said he would have loved to pair Edwards-Helaire with Ezekiel Elliott.

“I see a team that is clicking, they’re the Super Bowl champs and they look like they got better — the running back is outstanding, I watched him live last year at LSU,” Jones said. “I loved him in the draft. I was dreaming that he might get over in the second and be where we could look at him. He’s an exceptional player.”

The Cowboys took wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with the 17th pick in the first round. With Edwards-Helaire off the board to the Chiefs with the 32nd pick, the Cowboys chose cornerback Trevon Diggs with the 51st overall pick in the second round.

  1. Sure you were Jerry…..and Bill Polian had a 1st round grade on Tom Brady but somehow bypassed him for 6 rounds…

  2. Sure he was. I’m sure he would have picked Mahomes too….and Michael Thomas….and all the other good players he overlooked. He also wanted to draft Johnny Manziel.

  3. But why? The ‘Boys already have Zeke and Tony Pollard. CEH would barely play unless you are benching your big money rb

  4. He also said he lost sleep a few years ago when The Broncos drafted Paxton Lynch and he was hoping he’d fall to Dallas

If the Cowboys drafted Edwards-Helaire at 51, he would be making more money than Tony Pollard. Pollard would be relegated to an insurance back or maybe trade fodder.

  6. Yeah, Jerry, I was hoping to get Edwards-Helaire with pick 11 of my fantasy draft. He was gone then, too. So I feel your pain.

  7. That statement is just more evidence that Jerrah doesn’t know how to run a successful football team.

I can’t wait for the Cowboys to go 8-8 again and still blame it on Jason Garrett.

8-8 might win the NFC East by 3 games

  9. I was dreaming JJ fell getting out of the shower, hitting his head on the floor and having a awakening to sell the team and release me from the chains of yearly letdown

  10. Coming from the guy who lucked into Dak Prescott only because he wasn’t able to land his first choice, Paxton Lynch.

  11. At least its easier this year not to get so emotionally involved with your team. The disrespectful nature of the players towards our country makes it easier not to really care.

  12. CeeDee Lamb looks legit though. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Amari Cooper get traded if the right situation & right offer plays out. But what’s wrong with pairing Elliott with Tony Pollard Jerry? Pollard May not be CE-H but Pollard can certainly hang. Dallas can go 5-Wide with Cooper Lamb Pollard Elliott Gallup. I like it. Not even a Dallas Guy just a Fantasy Guy.

  13. I was dreaming that Jerry never fired Jimmy Johnson and the Cowboys went on to win four Super Bowls in a row.

  14. Yes, and I was dreaming of a defense that could stop someone, an offensive line that wasn’t so offensive and a quarterback who could do something other then in garbage time. Looks like we are both disappointed!!!

Considering how close they came to doin that with Switzer at the helm, you have to wonder what they would have done had Jones just let let Johnson coach and stayed out of the way.
