Report: NFL could move Titans-Steelers to Monday night

For now, the Titans game against the Steelers remains a go. But the Titans’ facility won’t reopen until at least Saturday after eight members of the organization tested positive for COVID-19, including three players.

The NFL “wants and intends” to play the game as scheduled Sunday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, but a contingency plan is in place to move the game to Monday night. That would allow for additional testing and contact tracing to occur.

It also would allow the Titans an extra day to practice.

The NFL has moved games from Sunday to Monday in the past for natural disasters, conflicts with MLB’s postseason and even the collapse of the inflatable roof at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

The NFL also could move the game to Week Seven by moving the Steelers’ Week Seven game against the Ravens to a week later when both have a scheduled off week.

  1. In 2010, they moved the Vikings-Eagles game from Sunday to Tuesday because of a blizzard in Philadelphia. This was two weeks after the Metrodome roof collapsed so a home game was moved to Detroit. Strange season.

  2. The NFL has been doing so well for the first three weeks. It seemed though they might be able to pull this thing off. I hope this isn’t the beginning of the end. If they handle this right, and other teams take heed and keep it tight then this will be in the rearview and the season can continue.

  3. I remember the images of the Giants waiting at the airport before crushing Brett Favre and the Vikings on a game moved to Monday.

  4. Sounds good to me. It’s going to be a much better matchup then the Packers vs Falcons curb stomping that is going to happen.

  5. This could get interesting. Have to think this is only the first of many games that will need to be rescheduled because of Covid.

  6. If moved to Monday, would we get the choice to watch this on MNF over Pack-ATL?

Rather watch two 3-0 teams versus a slaughter job of 3-0 Pack over 0-3 Falcons.

  7. Not even October yet folks, wait till November/December! Better move this to a bubble or it will not work past mid season.

  8. Id like to thank the nfl for finding a cure for the virus.. I guess if you wait one day there’s no problem.

    Thanks Roger

Kinda like in the real world where they make the bars and restaurants close at 11pm because we all know the Covid only comes out at 11:01pm…get on with your life and quit running around like chicken little.

  10. Why should the Steelers suffer, make the Titans play with no practice and three missing players, sounds fair to me

  11. i’d push to monday instead of later in the season if they actually feel like the extra day is all they’ll need. don’t want to burn that bye week yet because they might/probably will need it later.

  12. I’m fine with whatever protocol they go with. But let me know sooner rather than later so I can pick up a backup QB to replace Big Ben in my fantasy lineup.

  13. You can’t please some NFL Fans. The NFL is doing the best job they can to play the season and it was not unexpected that this would happen to some team(s) eventually. It was inevitable.
So — the NFL announces contingency plans and right away some fans get sarcastic about it.
The NFL will find a solution to this problem and try to do what is right and fair.
Everyone needs to understand that and hold their criticism, in my view.

Favre didn’t play that game. Jackson and Webb were the Vikings QBs

  15. People who are saying this is the beginning of the nd….. Please… A restaurant where I live had a COVID exposure Friday night and they never closed. You think the NFL will stand losing money??? Season will be played in full. As it should be..

  16. Everyone remember this? Why are people so willing to suddenly accept the mask mandate?

In fact the U.S. surgeon general recently urged the public to “STOP BUYING MASKS!” “They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!,” wrote Surgeon General Jerome Adams on Twitter

Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw did though. They had long runs.
