Steelers: We will proceed with game preparations until told otherwise

Eight positive COVID-19 tests in the Titans organization has led to their facility being closed along with the Vikings’ facility as the two teams played each other last Sunday.

The Titans are scheduled to play the Steelers this Sunday, although the fact that Tennessee’s facility will be closed until Saturday makes it hard to see how they’re going to be able to prepare to play a game. As of now, however, the Steelers are proceeding as if the game will kick off as scheduled.

“We have been in contact with the NFL regarding the positive COVID-19 tests with the Titans,” a statement from the team said. “We have been informed to proceed with our game preparations for Sunday’s game until we are informed otherwise. We will provide more information when available.”

The team has made one change to their plans. Head coach Mike Tomlin was set to speak to reporters at a noon press conference, but director of communications Burt Lauten said that will be postponed to later in the day. That change was presumably made to allow for more information about plans for this week to come together, although we’ll have to wait to see what Tomlin has to say this afternoon.

  1. Waiting for NFL press release that one team not being able to meet in person is not competitive advantage for the other team.

  2. This was bound to happen, so the NFL (a multi billion dollars organization) should have a contingency plan in place (I hope)

  3. Has the NFL planned for cancelled games? Are they gonna be made up and when? Why did we not hear about what their plans were for this type of situation when it was undoubtedly going to occur?

  4. Keep it safe. Unconventional but to make it work for now, just have Steelers play Texans. Work out all of the logistics with league and owners approval.

When the alternative is to not have games at all, what exactly would you have them do?

Pretty sure everyone knows that even having games is a luxury that can end at any time if things spin out of control. If that means stopping in-person meetings temporary when it’s evident that guys on the team have it and spread it to another team, not much you can do.

  6. This Vikings season is starting to feel like the one when Brett Favre returned a shell of his former self, Randy Moss came back and was promptly cut again, Chili got fired, and the Metrodome collapsed.

  7. Titans and Steelers are two 3-0 teams that between them have played 5 other teams (they both played Broncos). those 5 teams are a combined 1-14.

    lol

How about if one team can’t meet in person because of COVID, their next opponent can’t also. Everyone is on zoom if anyone is on zoom.

If you are really concerned about spreading from one team to another, you have to cancel the game.

You do realize that 6 of those losses were from the titans and steelers though yes?

well of course, but that doesn’t change the 1-14 record.
