Chiefs quarterback Jordan Ta’amu tests positive, too

Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu, one of the stars during the short-lived XFL 2.0 2020 season, is on the Kansas City practice squad. According to NFL Media, he’s also now on the COVID-19 reserve list.

Ta’amu’s positive test result makes it even more appropriate to postpone Sunday’s Patriots-Chiefs game, which already has happened.

Now the Chiefs, like the Patriots, will have to wait and see whether others test positive in the coming days. Given what has happened in Tennessee this week, it would be wise to brace for a daily report that one or more Patriots or Chiefs have been added to the list, at least for the next few days.

Frankly, that makes the plan to play the game on Monday or Tuesday even more impractical. The only clear alternative would be to make Patriots-Chiefs the first game to be placed on a Week 18 slate of contests that would bump back the wild-card round.

  1. I’m in agreement that either week 18 will be needed or contingency on the playoff eligibility/rankings determination for those teams playing less than 16 games. I’m in favor of games being reset on the bye week, if possible. Then, set up week 18 for games not able to be reset during bye week.

That’s works, unless a team(s) has/have to postpone multiple games throughout the season. Is the NFL prepared to push the playoffs back several weeks so teams can play all 16 games? If this happens a team that didn’t have a game postponed, might have a month off before their first playoff game.

    Mahomes positive?
    ……………………………………
Went 2-2 last season with Matt Moore! Think we’ll survive a couple weeks IF Mahomes were to test positive.

  4. Multiple almost simultaneous outbreaks. The league needs to consider a complete shutdown for a month or so – at the least.

  5. Chiefs QB? You mean some 4th string guy that literally anyone could sign if they wanted to, since he’s on the practice squad?

    C’mon.

Yeah, he’s just the guy who simulated Lamar Jackson for the previous week and Cam Newton for this last week’s worth of practices. He’s only the guy out there mingling with first & second team everybody else on the Chiefs squad.

No threat at all. Just cut him to the street and continue along like there’s nothing to see at all.

    Brilliant!

  7. By the time the entire season plays out it will be the smart (and possibly only) decision to slide out the wildcard round and move all delayed COVID-19 games to week 18. It only becomes an issue if it happens more than once to a team.

But it also becomes an issue in terms of the top 2 seeds earning a bye week. Do they suddenly get 2 weeks? That could become a disadvantage for them as it can be difficult to stay sharp with 2+ weeks off. But then again it’s 2 weeks for the SB too.
