Davante Adams says he’s not playing against Falcons

Packers wide receiver Davante Adams said last week that he would not return from a hamstring injury until he felt 100 percent, but he isn’t the only person weighing in on the decision to play.

Adams was listed as questionable to face the Falcons on Monday night when the Packers turned in their final injury report of the week, but there’s no need to wait in suspense for the release of the inactive players 90 minutes before kickoff. The wideout announced on Twitter Monday morning that he will not play in Week Four despite feeling up to it.

“Sorry fans and friends I wont be on the field tonight. I’ve done everything I need to do and proved Im ready but I guess I don’t know my body as well as others. Good luck out there my boys,” Adams wrote.

The Packers have a bye in Week Five and the extended break should set him up for a return in Week Six against the Buccaneers.

UPDATE Monday 11:48 a.m. ET: Adams has deleted the tweet without explanation for the course correction.

  1. A player who clearly is frustrated by not being allowed to play. That’s a good sign…..better frustrated than indifferent. Having the bye right after clearly makes this move by the team a long term decision. He will be really ready to play after the bye with much less risk of relapse or additional injuries.

  2. Hamstrings always feel great at 8/10. It’s when you try to “dig” and reach for a burst that you realize they’re not healthy and you feel it “pop” all over again. However long you think you need, it’s probably not long enough.

  3. Packers doctors are so conservative with injuries that it becomes almost annoying at times. I trust Davante when he says he wouldn’t play unless he is 100%, and he says he is ready to go.

I do have faith in MVS and Darrius Shepherd at WR for tonight. I also expect Bobby Tonyan and Jace to be factors as well. May see Tyler Ervin out wide a little tonight too.

Will be a fun game to watch.
