Browns running back Nick Chubb left Sunday’s win over the Cowboys in the first half with a knee injury and it will be some time before he’s back with the team.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Monday that Chubb injured his MCL and will be placed on injured reserve. Stefanski called it a “several week” injury and added that the Browns expect him to return to the lineup later this season.

The Browns didn’t miss a beat on the ground without Chubb. Kareem Hunt, D'Ernest Johnson and Dontrell Hilliard combined for 185 yards on 27 carries during the 49-38 win.

Other defenses may not be as forgiving as the Cowboys were, but Hunt’s history and Sunday’s overall production provide some reason to think they’ll be able to produce offensively while Chubb is out of action.

  1. A back as talented as Nick Chubb going down is a blow but Cleveland is deep at running back. Kareem Hunt was on the way to being a top 5 back before he messed up in KC. I don’t think the running game is going to suffer much if at all.

  2. The Humble Hammer Nick Chubb please get well . It is nice to have depth but Chubb is special .

  3. We got the fire power to last while Chubb is gone, but we’ll need him back sooner than later if we want to make the playoffs.

  4. Does the IR designation mandate a certain number of weeks away? How quickly can they bring him back?

He is going to be missed. By all accounts he is a great teammate and very good influence within the locker room.

  5. Chubb is a great RB, but the team operates better with Hunt on the field.
Could Chubb be trade bate when healthy? Unless someone like Carson goes down for the season, I don’t see it happening.

  6. Any player who is on IR (Note, not the COVID-IR) must miss a minimum of three weeks, and teams can return unlimited amounts of players to be IR-Return this year. Essentially it means Chubb MUST miss at least three weeks, and then it’ll be up to the team as to when to activate him. He could stay on IR all year, or return in 4 weeks. Depends on his health and the team’s decision making.

  7. Stefanski knows how to call a run game. RB coach in MN for many years with AP, then as OC last year Dalvin had a nice year.

Glad the young man didn’t tear an ACL, he’s a good player and a good kid. HE’s rebounded well from knee injury before, hope that continues.
