Tom Brady defies age with 369 yards, 5 TDs

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady had an age-defying game on Sunday.

At age 43, Brady became the oldest NFL player ever to throw for five touchdown passes in a game. It had previously been done three times by 40-year-olds: In 1997 by Warren Moon, in 2019 by Drew Brees and in 2017 by Brady.

Brady also became the oldest player ever to pass for 350 yards in a game. That record was previously set by a 41-year-old Brady in 2018.

Quarterbacks 41 or older have thrown for more than 300 yards in a game a total of 13 times in NFL history: Brady 11 times, Drew Brees once this season and Brett Favre once in 2010.

When Brady first started talking about playing until he was 45, most people didn’t think it was possible. As he continues to defy age, Brady is proving his doubters wrong.

  1. offensive era…all stats bloated. Goodell telling refs to not call holding, etc.

Long season, too. If he chooses to throw 46 times vs a good team, he’s going to lose those games.

For example, the Pats would have won that game going away yesterday, but since it was the crap Chargers, the eeked out win after anothe pick 6, is somehow ignored.

It’s not about collecting stats. It’s about controlling the game. TBs D blows, too.

  2. and everyone said he was nothing more than a system quarterback. i got sometkhing to say folks….. hahahahahahahhahahahhahahhahhahahha.

  3. For the last 5 years everyone spends the first 3 weeks calling Brady old and washed up. Around week 4 stories like this come out…

  4. Pats fan here. It is no surprise to me that TB is still capable of putting up numbers like yesterday. Last year, he had half the weapons he has this year. I am hoping he does well in Tampa Bay. He is, and always will be, the GOAT, Ain’t nobody getting to 9 SBs and winning 6. Not Mahomes, Wilson, Jackson. TB was great, and one must give his coaching staff for many of the victories he has enjoyed.

  5. But it was a close call because Ronald Jones doesnt have what it takes to be the lead back. Hes a good rb, probably top 30 in the League. But this team has SB prospects when Leonard Fournette is in the backfield.

  6. “crap chargers”? How people quickly forget they held the SB champs to 9pts in 3 quarters just 2 weeks ago, and took them to OT. If you watch the games, you can clearly see Brady still has some gas left in the tank. It’ll be a fun watch this year!

Eh. Meh. I’d still take Joe Cool over Brady

    Thats ok. Winning isn’t everything.

  8. Through 4 games:

    2018 2019 2020

    Pass Yds 918 1,061 1,122
    Pass TD 9 7 11
    Rating 94.0 97.5 99.4

The GOAT gets better with age..

  9. He’s played some of the worst teams in the league over the past few weeks (Chicago is another one on Thursday). The true test will be Green Bay and New Orleans in a few weeks. Also, LAC gave them a gift at the end of the first half.

  10. I marvel at what Brady does.
That said, look all around the league. Because of all the rules changes, offenses are prolific all around the league now. Even teams which lose put up big numbers offensively. Take a look at these QB’s — all of whom were on the losing end of the score this weekend and you’ll see what I mean:

    Hoskins — 314 yards
    Herbert — 290 yards
    Fitzpatrick — 315 yards
    Watson — 300 yards
    Prescott — 502 yards
    Minshew — 352 yards
    Carr — 311 yards
Mullens / Beathard — combined for 338 yards

It’s time to realize that it’s not a big deal to throw for a QB to throw for 300 yards anymore and 400 yards should be the point at which we say the QB had a great game.

I agree. Of course it’s a combination of players and coaches. Nobody can go to NINE Super Bowls and winning SIX by themselves. That goes for all the other dynasties. You can have the perfect game plan all you want but you still need someone to pull the trigger. And no one can execute it better than Tom Brady. Since the split, why must we choose and discredit the other? In my mind, Belichick is the greatest coach and Brady is the greatest QB and in combination they created the greatest dynasty. Not a Pats fan here.

  12. The GOAT isn’t satisfied with 6 rings

That may be true. that TB team is not beating SEA, KC or BALT. Not because of Tommy but because of the defense and the undisciplined play week in and week out. If they meet SEA in the playoffs they are going to get torched.

  13. This game is a big confidence builder for the Bucs. The younger teammates only saw Brady making comeback wins on the television before. But witnessing it on the battlefield with him, at the tender age of 43, and winning the game must be exhilarating. With Brady as the leader they know they always have a chance and that’s a powerful message.

And what good timing that this happened right at the end of the first quarter of the season, a sort of preseason to get everyone on the same page. From here on out, everything has to be clicking on all cylinders for the tough roads ahead. And that goes for not just the Bucs but ALL the good teams in the league. If the league can keep Covid at bay, it’s going to be a fascinating season!

  14. As a Dolphins fan who lives in Tampa; I’m glad he’s out of the AFC East and happy to have him in the Bay… REALLY! weird cheering for him though

  15. Look at how much misfortune this guy has had, despite the accomplishments. He missed a full season due to an ACL injury in 2008, his star tight end went to prison in the summer of 2013, he was suspended four games over more probable than not, his defense allowed 41 points in Super Bowl LII, people called him washed up in 2014 after getting benched against the Chiefs, he was one dropped helmet catch play away from being 19-0, Antonio Brown ruined Brady’s season last year, and Belichick rarely ever gave him offensive talent.

  16. Eh. Meh. I’d still take Joe Cool over Brady.

That’s perfectly fine. With Joe comes 2 less SBs and statistical placement about a mile behind Brady

Yeah because Seattle has such a great pass defense
Ranked in the bottom of the league
    And no pass rush

Better chance it would be a shoot out
    Than a blowout

  18. After spotting the Chargers a 14 point swing pick-6, another win for Brady on a team that otherwise was going nowhere. Further proof that the Pats success was primarily due to Brady (now 42), not BB….who pre-Brady as a head coach had a losing record with the Browns and was fired for that. Even with supercam ….BB will have a sub-500 record moving forward. Cam however was an MVP and will carry the team to a few wins.

  19. I don’t get the few negative comments on here. I wish Brady finished his career in NE. We’ll never know what went on behind closed doors. I could give it a good guess though. I think the negative posts are from Bill B.

  20. The list below is from results to reasons.
Reverse the list, you will see Belichick will be exposed.

#1 A, players are willing to follow the instructions and disciplines by coaches.
#1 B, players are willing to take less money to play for Pats.
#3, Pats had good chance winning SB, at least making to AFCCG.
#4, Belichick could spend a lot on defense every year. (and still need Brady to save its ass).
#5, Belichick didn’t have to pay lot on the offense that played better than Peyton, Rodgers, and Brees in playoff.
#6, Brady could turn cheap receivers into play makers, especially in playoff.

Just to be clear, I was not taking a side in the TB v BB argument. It is a team sport. Planned and then executed on the field. They definitely needed each other as well as the 100’s of other players and coaches on the staffes to be as successful as they have been

  22. Ungrateful Pats fans who used to scream GOAT, GOAT, GOAT for years and now hate him and criticize him because he dared to leave them. Where was all this criticism of him when he was winning Super Bowls? It’s too delicious knowing how much it must eat at Pats fans when Brady plays well.

It becomes easy when you play the same lame secondaries every year.

It’s hard to think of a secondary or a team Brady has owned more than the Steelers

The Pats played the Steelers almost every year. Just out of curiosity, how did Brady’s stats line up in all those games?

  25. For the first time in my life, I have two teams. Pats and Tampa. Can’t make fun of those people now. Thanks BB.

  26. Buccaneers have not beaten a good team yet. The Chargers have talent but are poorly coached and almost lost to the Bengals.

  27. The way Brady is going, and NE doing just fine (corona notwithstanding), it looks like BB/Brady was just the perfect storm

Again this is NOT a Patriots fan. He’s a Jets fan that pretends to be a Patriots fan then takes lame shots at Brady.

    Again, it’s pathetic

It’s all good, man. I was just embellishing your point. I was referring to how other fans see the game always in binary terms: all or nothing. Yes, it’s a team game and that’s what made it the greatest sport to me!

  32. The Barry Bonds of football. Goodell will never dream of drug testing him. He has that grandfathered in since Kraft is Goodells best friend. He can’t expose him now and taint those fraud rings in New England.

  33. Can We stop doing 1 game sample sizes?

He has a 20 year resume. Can you stop crying about Brady?
