Given the news that Patriots practice-squad defensive tackle Bill Murray has landed on the team’s COVID-19 reserve list, the obvious question was this: Was he on the plane to and from Kansas City with roughly 20 who had close contact with Cam Newton, or was he on the other plane?

The answer: Neither.

That said, Murray was not among the members of the organization who had close contact with Newton.

As noted by Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston and confirmed by PFT, Murray didn’t make the trip to Kansas City, which reduces the extent to which others may have been exposed to Murray. However, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Murray is one of the players who accepted the invitation from the team to stay at the hotel near Gillette Stadium. It’s possible that, based on interactions with other players staying at the hotel, the virus may have spread.

Time will tell, as it always does given this disease. The incubation period continues to provide a gaping donut hole for the NFL, allowing persons with COVID-19 to get in to the building and to potentially expose others to it before a positive test result is detected.

  1. Is Newton at the hotel? I figured numerous rookies would take the hotel option this year, but also Newton as well just to make it easy.

Maybe each got it from a hotel staffer?

  2. I’d stay out of elevators. The virus can linger in the air in poorly ventilated areas for half an hour or more. I’d stay out of public restrooms too, or any small confined areas where strangers could have been.

  3. Seeing as there has been few, if any reports of any player becoming more than mildly ill, why worry about it? From what we are finding out about the virus, people the age of pro football players rarely even feel sick. And those in excellent physical condition even less so. Newton has/had no symptoms whatsoever. The same with almost all the other players who have tested positive. It’s not like the league is allowing players to mingle with the general public.

  4. The President seemingly got over it in less than 48 hours. And he’s over 70 and obese…

I think the players will be okay.

In reality, the president isn’t “over it”. He’s still contagious and acting very stupidly.
Did you see him on that balcony Monday grimacing in pain while trying to suck as much air as he could into his lungs?
Did he look “over it” to you?
