Patriots plan to practice Saturday morning

The Patriots had no positive COVID-19 tests on Friday and a repeat on Saturday should allow them on the practice field for the first time this week.

The team announced that they plan to practice at 10:30 a.m. ET on Saturday and hold a walkthrough on Sunday. They are set to play the Broncos at home at 5 p.m. ET on Monday.

Head coach Bill Belchick is expected to speak to reporters before the practice session. One of the questions he’s likely to be asked is about the status of quarterback Cam Newton as Newton could be in line for a return to action if he is asymptomatic and has had multiple negative COVID-19 tests.

Cornerback Stephon Gilmore and practice squad defensive tackle Bill Murray both tested positive for COVID-19 this week. Newton’s test came before their Week Four game against the Chiefs. Brian Hoyer started in his place, but Jarrett Stidham replaced him in the second half.

  1. This Bronco fan hates to admit it, but they should win anyway given our weak coach.

He can’t deal with clock management or a strong pass rus. Worse they can’t stop anybody until the other team gets over mid-field which then guarantees they will either score or our offense has to go 80 yards or more to score, Meanwhile our offense regularly sputters and punts from deep in our own end of the field thereby giving the opponent a short field. You simply can’t win if you’re always playing on an 80 yard field and your opponent is playing on a 60 yard field.

    Good post, Dave.

The Pats D routinely puts on clinics, save for the hiccup in Seattle where Wilson was on fire.

But, that said. if NE quarantines Newton and Gilmore to be safe, which tbey should, Stidham will start and we can finally see a gameplan and an actual start to see what he has over 4 qtrs.

They are thrilled with his early progress as a prospect.

  3. Perhaps the Titans should call up the Patriots and ask how its done.

This coming from someone who hates the Patriots.

  4. Run game will be the key to the game for the Pats. Use Harris and Burkhead on runs right down Denver’s gut. Defense will force a turnover or two since they’re probably salty about dropping two ints last week.

  5. Nonsense. The Pats have been practicing, covertly, all week. When do the Covid 19 protocol rules apply to them?

With three interceptions in 17 passes the last thing BB wants is Jarrett Stidham throwing the football. He has seen all he needed to see from him and that’s why he brought in Cam Newton

Expect the Pats to either sign Newton to a long-term deal or draft a new QB this offseason

  7. If the pats are thrilled with Stidham’s progress, can you imagine how the Bengals and Chargers must be feeling right about now?
