Report: Dan Quinn firing “all but finalized”

The Falcons fell to 0-5 on Sunday and it appears that the loss to the Panthers was the final nail in the coffin for head coach Dan Quinn.

Jeff Schultz of TheAthletic.com reports that Quinn’s firing has been “all but finalized” and that an announcement of his dismissal could come in the next two days.

Quarterback Matt Ryan said after Sunday’s game that he hopes that won’t be the case.

“I hope not. I think Dan’s been nothing but a great coach since he’s been here. We haven’t done a good enough job as a team and as players,” Ryan said, via Tenitra Batiste of 92.9 The Game.

The Falcons are 14-23 since the start of the 2018 season and that’s a lot for a coach to overcome even if he has a history of success in Atlanta. The fact that the Falcons have blown huge leads in a couple of their losses hasn’t helped and that’s why Ryan is poised to have a new head coach this week.

  1. A few years too late. I really need to get a gig in the NFL. I could coast for a whole decade and not actually succeed and collect a fat check the whole time. What a joke.

  2. All this is is silencing the witness!! Discredit the witness on how the nfl let a team comeback from 28-3

  3. How are they going to inform him? Because from what I’ve seen, Quinn clearly hasn’t been around all season.

  4. If Quinn wasn’t friends with Blank, he would’ve been fired last year. He should’ve been fired last year.

  5. What took so long? Quinn is a joke. That Arthur Blank waited so long to pull the trigger makes him one too.

  6. If you told me Quinn or Bill O’Brien would get fired before Gase or Patricia, I’d probably be skeptical on that bet.

  7. I don’t know how any franchise can recover from that Super Bowl. That was just …

  8. If Matt Ryan thinks it’s a shame then he should look in the mirror. Instead of calling him Matty Ice they should call him Matty First Half” Ryan because he disappears in the second half of games. Not what you’d expect from a $150M QB.

  9. HAHA looks like “wunderkid” Kyle Shanahan in a spot of bother here as well. GO,HAWKS HAHAHAHA!

They may as well call him Natty Ice at this point. Both are equally terrible

  11. Pretty sure making some random Falcons fan interim coach would yield as many wins as Quinn this year.

  12. Quinn got them close. Oh, so close. But he can’t get them back. They can’t close under him.

It was a run that had some memorable moments, but neither are getting better with each other.

  13. Lost season for the team. Yuo have to make this move now!! 2 years late but do it now and start over.

  14. “Might as well lose them all and get Lawrence. Let him sit behind Ryan for a year.”

I think Matt Ryan’s contract has an out (or expires) after 2021, so I think this is a plausible option.

But don’t rule out Dabo Sweeney going to Atlanta also. Blank has money to spend, a new stadium to pay off, and a need for an exciting quarterback.

This is less likely, but if Dabo was looking to move to the NFL, then 2021 is the year to do it. Either Atlanta, Houston, or whoever gets the first overall pick.

  15. Don’t worry. Every incompetent person on that staff will have a job next season. Why the league keeps recycling these folks is beyond me. How many teams has Dirk Koetter been a part of, and how many have had success?!?!?!

    _________

I think it’s a shame you didn’t actually read the article bc he did take the blame over the coach

  17. Give Ryan credit for attempting to shoulder blame, but coach and GM have buried Falcons. Rebuild.

  18. Falcon’s haven’t had a good coach since Bobby Petrino. He and Vick would have been Magic together.

  19. Jeez this franchise can’t even fire their coach properly….if you plan to fire him, come out and announce it… don’t let the guy swing in the breeze with this “all but finalized” crap.

  20. I think Dabo would make a good coach, but it will take some kind of amazing offer to him away from Clemson. Dabo loves coaching college football at Clemson.

You need an intern coach who will make a positive impact on the team. I give the edeg to Koetter.

  21. As a totally unofficial representative of the Chicago Bears, we will trade you Matt Nagy, Ryan Pace, Nick Foles, Mitch Trubisky and Robert Quinn for Dan Quinn and Matt Ryan.
