Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Dolphins dominate the 49ers

Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was very good and 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was very bad as the Dolphins handed the 49ers a 43-17 beatdown today in San Francisco.

Fitzpatrick had an outstanding game, completing 22 of 28 passes for 350 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He did most of that in the first half, and by the fourth quarter he wasn’t passing at all, as the Dolphins were nursing an insurmountable lead.

Garoppolo was awful, going just 7-for-17 for 77 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He was pulled at halftime in favor of C.J. Beathard, who was only slightly better: 9-for-18 for 94 yards, with one touchdown and no interceptions.

The 2-3 Dolphins probably won’t be a playoff team, but Fitzpatrick is playing well enough that there’s no rush to replace him with Tua Tagovailoa.

The 2-3 49ers also probably won’t be a playoff team, and that’s a major disappointment given that they were in the Super Bowl eight months ago. The 49ers expected to be a lot better — and expected Garoppolo to be a lot better.

  1. Don’t feel bad niners fans. Every team has to get FitzMagic’d, it’s like a right of passage.

  2. It is so unbelievably awesome that JimmyG is a 49er! – – – and easy to imagine the 9ers losing their next 6 games; Rams, Pats, Hawks, Packers, Saints, Rams

  3. Dolphins are a team playing hard. I think they have more talent than people know but one team that is a prentender is the 49ers. Their only wins were against the NY teams.

Look at their schedule coming up, its murders row. It may be more than a month they are favorites for a win. It is a dumpster fire

  4. Dolphins & Raiders both put up 40 spots on teams today.
Didn’t Buffalo beat both of those “nothing” teams?

  5. BEAT. DOWN

Total collapse of the Niners and it can’t be execused due to injury. Miami isn’t Kansas City and they bullied a team with playoff aspirations (playoffs?!!).

We were exposed today, so good on FitzMagic and crew for the wake up call.

  6. Jimmy G didn’t look right today.
Injuries and lack of depth exposed on the 49ers.
Gonna be a long season for them.

    Dolphins wanted this badly.
They got their starting CB1 back.
    Fitz keeps proving doubters wrong.
Coordinator play calling on both sides was aggressive.

    Good W to grab!

Your only wins are vs the winless NY teams.

You really needed a ‘wake up call’?

  8. “49ers also probably won’t be a playoff team”

I wouldn’t write off the Niners just yet.

  9. Miami THROTTLED the 9ers
Don’t sleep on Miami. They will continue to improve and next season will be for real

Like I said, maybe San Fran wasn’t quite so amazing last year after all.

Wrong. They were that good last year. Teams are different every year. The most consistent teams have a great franchise quarterback. In this division, that’s only Russell Wilson right now.

  11. To be fair, the Niners were missing some defensive players which definitely made an impact on the game. Niners fans should be concerned that Jimmy G looked terrible.

  12. Miami fan here. Very happy by today’s outcome (obviously). Jimmy G did not look right, it’s very likely he is still hurt.

  13. Teams that lose the Super Bowl far more often than not fail to make the playoffs the following season

  14. So Mortimer in Miami spent so much time on the Pats article that they could not comment on the Miami game, now that’s funny!

  15. Jimmy looked as rusty as an old Chevy Vega. The 49ers were expected to be the big dog in the NFC. Now facing a murders row schedule.

  16. The most valuable player in the league might be Nick Bosa. With Bosa, the 49ers can play with anybody. Without him, anybody can beat them.

  17. I imagine before the game, the other team’s players looking across the field at Fitz, wondering if this could be the day he uncorks the magic on THEM.

  18. Dolphins & Raiders both put up 40 spots on teams today.
Didn’t Buffalo beat both of those “nothing” teams?

Wow, Bills fans on every article looking for people to say gow Great they are

  19. Just look at who the fins played and lost. Patriots, Bills, and Seahawks. They were competitive in all those games. They are building something if you look beyond their record.

You mean the way Patriots fans have been doing for the last 15 years?

“49ers also probably won’t be a playoff team”

I wouldn’t write off the Niners just yet.

    Seattle
    Rams
    Arizona
    9ers

    I would write them off.

  22. Give credit to the dolphins, but no one has mentioned that Nick Bosa had surgery last week. Makes it easier for a 35 y/o qb to sling it around

  23. Even with how banged up the 49ers are this is a huge win for the Dolphins. Not sure where they finish but I think they really could get to at least .500 at this rate.

  24. Super bowl hangover year for the 9ers, there ain’t gonna be a revenge tour. That was also some Fitzmagic at it’s finest.

  25. Almost the exact same final score of the Clemson v Miami (42-17) game played just 15 hours before.

    Coincidence? I think not.

  26. Phins fan here, watching Garoppolo today, he looked to me like he was playing with pain. High ankle sprains are the worst, I’ve had one they seem to linger forever. He was not comfortable and his O-line didn’t really help him out. It wasn’t just the sacks that took a toll on him it was the QB hits too. I feel bad for him and the Phins in that we didn’t get to play against his best capabilities.

Yes I’m glad we put a beat down on a tough rival, the 9rs always seem to have the Dolphins number, just not yesterday. The last 2 weeks I’ve watched the Phins seem to get a bit tougher than I’m used to. The licks our D put on Seattle and the 9rs were somewhat out of character from the past few seasons. I like the trend. If you are a physical team that also has a few good skill players you have the foundation for success.

I think coach Flores is making an imprint on this team in the right way. I think the future looks much brighter in Miami than it has the past 2 decades. The only big worry now is the emergence of the Bills as a real threat to the AFC East, they have a monster D and a true franchise QB along with some long ball hitters at RB and WR. The next few years are going to be interesting.

  27. I have been a Miami fan since the franchise beginning in 1966. Since 1972, we have been pathetic! What happened to the 49ers in last years SUPERBOWL??? Your QB SUCKS!!! Miami finally has an owner and coach that want to turn things around! Looks like the 49ers are in for a long losing season? Get rid of Garoppolo!!!!
