Titans shut down facility, again

The NFL’s COVID-19 bubble is bursting, and the only way to fix it will be to use a bubble.

Tuesday’s Bills-Titans game has been thrust into uncertainty given Sunday’s announcement by the Titans that the facility once again has been shut down.

“This morning we learned that a staff member tested positive,” the team said in a statement. “We have temporarily closed our facility and are in communication with the league on the next steps.”

It’s unclear what the next steps will be. And it’s hard to imagine the Titans hosting Buffalo in two days.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the new positive was generated by a coach. That makes 12 players and 10 non-players for the Titans, a total of 22 employees who have tested positive.

The NFL and NFL Players Association have investigated the situation in Tennessee, and many in league circles believe that unprecedented punishment could be coming. The fact that the positive cases are still coming won’t help Tennessee’s cause.

Meanwhile, the only way to help the NFL’s cause remains the creation of a home-market bubble. The sooner the league and union accept this, the sooner all 256 games can be salvaged.

  1. Seems like the have reached the point where they have to forfeit now. You can’t hold the rest of the league up like this or there will be no football games

  2. How do you get paid over $30mm a year and yet mismanage every major decision that comes across your desk (Roger)? The Titans needed to forfeit or all the games needed to be cancelled this week. Now there is going to be a log jam at the end of the season w/ teams needing to make up games. Maybe the NFL realized this & this pathetic attempt at a season was no more than a short term money grab. Incompetence, greed or both? I can’t explain it any other way.

  3. Cant say I saw this coming, we all saw this coming. When you have young men who want to live life and party in between games, not go in their basements hiding, you get this. NFL never imagined or planned for this out come.
It was basic greed and a prayer as the playbook.

  4. Wow, the Titans organization is a joke. They should forfeit their two games against the Steelers and Bills and any other game until they get their crap in order.

  5. Titans get popped with another positive test.

Time for the NFL to suspend Ben Roethlisberger and Josh Allen for 2 games. Strip the Bills of their 2021 draft pick and award it to the Titans organization.

  6. Shortly after the facility was closed Ryan Tannehill was spotted organizing a team work out at a local high school …..

The Titans are a joke and should be forfeiting games.

For everyone piling on Goodell. The NFL wanted team bubbles but the NFLPA has been against it so direct your comments to them.

  7. Titans franchise should be forced to fold. The teams greatest accomplishments are a forward lateral and now this.

Problem is, this doesn’t just penalize the Titans, it also hurts every team trying to get into the playoffs & that one bye slot. You are gifting two contenders a win AND an extra bye. That’s not gonna work.

  9. Play a 10 game season, spread out the schedule followed by an expanded playoff tournament in a bubble. I know traditionalists won’t like this but welcome to 2020.

  10. Time for the NFL to suspend Ben Roethlisberger and Josh Allen for 2 games. Strip the Bills of their 2021 draft pick and award it to the Titans organization…..must be a raiders fan..

  11. Punishment, the way Goodell handles everything, not addressing systemic or structural issues because that’d admitting his failures, better instead to punish anyone and everyone.

  12. Just make the Titans forfeit those games. The schedule is so out of whack and it’s the Titans’ own fault. Make them forfeit and make them ineligible for the playoffs. Maybe that’ll get the message across.
