Raheem Morris will coach the Falcons for the rest of the season after Sunday night’s firing of head coach Dan Quinn.

Morris, the Falcons’ defensive coordinator, will be named interim head coach, according to multiple reports.

The 44-year-old Morris has been with the Falcons since 2015. He spent three years as head coach of the Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011.

The Falcons also fired General Manager Thomas Dimitroff. Team President Rich McKay will oversee the team’s football operations until a new G.M. is named.

Morris will make his debut leading the Falcons against the Vikings on Sunday in Minnesota.

  1. .35% winning coach with the Tampa Bay Bucanneers. McCay should have just asked Tony Dungy to come out of the booth for old times sake.

  2. The owner is locking up Trevor Lawrence. Smart move because we already seen his defense and his head coaching abilities.

  3. I misread this as the Falcons hiring Raheem Mostert and thought, well, anyone is better than Dan Quinn.

  4. Given the options a good choice. Wish him well, but don’t win too many games as the draft is important in a rebuild.

  5. They’ll win just enough games to be out of the Lawrence sweepstakes. That’s the most Falcons thing to do.

  6. Really doesn’t matter who the coach is at this point. Just keep losing and make a few trades to improve our cap situation for next year.

  7. The sad part is they could sweep the Saints and finish 2-14 and would still consider the season a success…

  8. As a Bucs fan good luck Raheem…well until we play then suck it. But overall good luck, didn’t think you were ready when you took over in Tampa but you worked hard and we’re a class act.

  9. Morris had a weird 3 years in Tampa. A 10-6 playoff appearance sandwiched between 3-13 and 4-12 seasons. But it was him or Koetter who also was unimpressive with the Bucs so flip a coin.

Yet another failed head coach gets a second opportunity.

Don’t forget BB was considered a failure in Cleveland. Raheem was thrust into a HC job way before he was ready. Perhaps he’s learned some lessons since then.

He’s not getting a real opportunity. He’s a sacrificial lamb, because someone has to coach the team for the rest of this season.
After the poorly-constructed Falcons play out the string a new GM will be hired, and he’ll almost certainly bring in his own coaching staff.
Besides, even if Raheem Morris were being given a real opportunity to show what he can or can’t do, he’s only had one other head coaching job. Should Bill Belichick not have been considered in New England because he “failed” in Cleveland?

  12. “The owner is locking up Trevor Lawrence. Smart move because we already seen his defense and his head coaching abilities.”

The Jets, Giants and Texans may have disagree…imagine the draft-pick-haul Lawrence will command from either of those 3 IF they get #1?

  13. You guys are acting like they are trying to turn around this season. Ain’t happening. By naming him interim coach, the leader of one of the worst defensive units in the league, they are setting themselves up to hire someone else entirely while giving him a shot to “interview” for the job and I assume fulfill the RR req. anyone can correct me on it, I don’t actually know if an in house interview will satisfy it.

  14. Trevor Lawrence with the 1st overall pick, then trade Matt Ryan to San Francisco to re-unite with Kyle Shanahan.

  15. Some people are dogging him, and my first thought was “him again?” But maybe he has improved. In his first go-around I considered him more of a cheerleader type coach, but heck let’s give the guy a second chance. He has the rest of the season to prove himself so why not?

  16. They’ll probably rally and win a few games for the Gipper and by doing so screw themselves out of a top pick for a new QB.

  17. Arthur Blank must have the patience of Job. Quinn’s expiration date has long since passed but it took until now for Blank to act. Another guy who should be gone is Ryan. This guy shows no fight, no spark, no pulse. He looks good standing on the sidelines with his baseball cap and that’s it.

  18. What a signing that was it’s a good thing they locked him up before some other team swooped in and grabbed him

  19. Raheem Morris has the makings of a darn fine coach. He was too young and inexperienced in his first opportunity with Tampa Bay. He may do much better here. Even if he doesn’t get an opportunity to keep the job, I think he’ll eventually be a head coach in this league again.

  20. The posts on this board are funny. “The defense is terrible so lets draft a new QB”. That idea makes zero sense. Ryan isn’t the issue and is still a top QB in the NFL. The awful defense is the problem. Free agency and the draft should be focused around the defense. If they get a top 5 pick, take the best pass rusher on the board. If for whatever reason there isn’t an elite pass rusher, then trade down and acquire more assets. The Saints and Bucs will be terrible again within the next 2 years when Brady and Brees retire, so take that time to build the defense.

  21. If you have a franchise QB available, you draft him. Doesn’t matter how many other holes you have on your team.

Unfortunately for the Texans, they don’t have a pick until round 3. I’m sure the Dolphins would appreciate it if the Texans finish with the worst record though considering they acquired that pick in the Tunsil trade.

  23. Alright Vikings. We play Atlanta. This is the game of the year. Don’t blow this. Tank for Trevor.
