Dalvin Cook not practicing today

Vikings running back Dalvin Cook is not practicing today.

Cook, who suffered a groin injury in Sunday night’s loss to the Seahawks, is out of practice for the second consecutive day. That puts his availability for Sunday against the Falcons in doubt.

The good news for the Vikings is that they should be fine without Cook. Alexander Mattison, the backup who became the bell cow when Cook went down, was more effective than Cook was on Sunday night, with 20 carries for 112 yards and catching all three of the passes thrown to him for 24 yards.

Cook signed a five-year, $63 million contract with the Vikings before the season.

  1. Did anybody think he was going to play on Sunday? And no, the Vikings aren’t anywhere close to as good without him. All you have to do is take a look at Mattison’s last carry. Cook would have easily cut to the right for the final first down and then victory formation. Not that I agree with Zim’s decision to not kick the FG. Pure stupidity to do that, especially with your backup RB.

  2. Cook can’t make it through a Seahawk game without some lame injury. How can he be considered a top tier back when a good team like Seattle owns him mentally?

  3. Mattison is not the back Cook is. He doesn’t have that game breaking burst that Cook does. Not many backs do. He won’t replicate what he did the Seahawks week in/week out. Good change of pace dude, but not a permanent replacement.

I know you are being sarcastic as you knock the Vikings on EVERY SINGLE thread. (BTW, do you have a job? You are the FIRST Poster on every Vikings thread… it’s uncanny)

Fact is I think they really are considerably better than the 1-4 record would typically mean.

Other than the Colts, all of their defeats came at the hands of undefeated teams, and the other opponents of those teams have been beaten much more convincingly than the way they beat the Vikings. They have TWO single point losses.

They are two plays away from what would have been 3-2, and their offensive output in recent weeks has been unnoticed due to the fact they lost.

Maybe not the “BEST” 1-4 team in NFL history, but I truly think if the defense was not so banged up and green this would be a completely different season.

  5. Cook is a very good back, but without that system he would just be above average. Terrell Davis was above average, but he wouldn’t have gone to the HOF if it wasn’t for that system.

  6. Not a good start for the Vikings so far and I think we might have been able to anticipate where they are right now, given this is the first year they did not win the off season or even come close.

  7. Obviously a huge loss, but Mattison is a great backup. Could be a starter on a handful of teams. He plays very similar to Dalvin and outside of that bad decision he made on 4th and inches last week he has been extremely impressive in his limited action

It makes sense to sit Dalvin this week given the bye is the following week. Rest up and come back strong after the bye!

This is true. You’ve got to give it up for his dedication…
