Dolphins are favored for first time under Brian Flores

The Dolphins have won some of their 21 games since Brian Flores became their head coach and they’ve lost others, but one thing has remained the same for all of them.

They have been the underdogs according to bookmakers each time they’ve taken the field since the start of the 2019 season. That is set to change this weekend and they are set to be heavy favorites.

Miami is favored by 9.5 points heading into Sunday’s game against an 0-5 Jets team that will be starting Joe Flacco at quarterback for the second straight week. The change in circumstance isn’t changing how Flores wants the team to approach Sunday’s game, however.

“I’m not taking anyone lightly,” Flores said. “That’s going to be my message to the team. That’s how we should approach every game. That’s how every NFL team and player should approach every game. It’s the best of the best. Every team has good players. If you walk into a game thinking that somebody is going to lay down, you’re probably going to get the opposite, in my experience, in my time in this league.”

The Dolphins were last favored in Week 16 of the 2018 season. They were three-point favorites against the Jaguars and lost 17-7 in what turned out to be current Jets head coach Adam Gase’s penultimate game as the head coach in Miami.

  1. As a Phins fan, I am sooooo glad Gase is now the Jets coach and not Miami’s. Thank you coach Flores for finally bringing a football attitude to the Dolphins.

  2. I could tell the Dolphins are sneaky good and have a bright future in week 2. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they sneaked into the playoffs and were competitive

  3. Did you see the Jets schedule? They are not exactly losing to the league’s elite teams.

If they don’t steal one from a better Dolphins team, they will go 0-16.

  4. Dolphins went into last offseason with reason to be optimistic. They have a good coach, really solid structure and a good defense…

We forget the 2019 dolphins started 0-7 getting blown out by the ravens and patriots to start the season by insanely horrible numbers ( I think the ravens won 59-10 and the pats 43-0 ). But in their last 9 games of 2019, they won 5. This team is on the rise and might be playoff competitive by next season.

    Flacco always beats the Dolphins!

True. But Adam Gase was never his coach before. So it’s +10 (Gase and all his double digit losses) and -.5 (Flacco)

  6. Mortimer has a good point and I’ve been saying that as well. Fins have never beaten Flacco (or Cam Newton, which is why BB signed him…he hates losing to Dolphins!). The problem is the Jets are horrendous with or without Flacco, and Flores really seems to be building a damned good defense. So do we get FitzMagic or FitzTragic? That could be the ultimate decider. Still think Fins win though…. last year, Jets only won by one 22-21, and that was in NY. This game is in Miami, and Fins O and D are a lot better than last year’s!
