Randy Gregory was “lights out” at practice, eligible to play next week

Randy Gregory is a little over a week from returning to game action.

The Cowboys defensive end has not played a game since Jan. 12, 2019, when the Cowboys lost to the Rams in the divisional round of the 2018 playoffs. The NFL suspended him for a fourth time shortly after that, and Gregory missed the 2019 season.

The NFL conditionally reinstated Gregory, allowing him to return to practice last week. He becomes eligible to play in Week Seven against Washington.

“Randy was lights out there today,” Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott said Thursday. “It was really tough to block him. I’m excited to get Randy back. He’s got those fresh legs. He just looks better than I’ve ever seen him. I’m excited to see him back.”

The Cowboys made Gregory a second-round choice in 2015, but he has played only 28 games, with one start, making 45 tackles and seven sacks.

  1. When Gregory was drafted, everybody knew he was a drug risk. He had a drug problem in college. The Cowboys should’ve known better.

  2. Another great draft choice by the Cowboys, who still don’t think good character is an important player trait. It’s no accident they never go anywhere in the post-season.

  3. He will screw up and be done. Lets hope Aldon Smith continues to get better while embracing his opportunity.

  4. Could be worse for the Cowboys, could be the Cinncinatt Bengals.
Wait, we have their ex QB starting for us now. Damn!

  5. “When Gregory was drafted, everybody knew he was a drug risk. He had a drug problem in college. The Cowboys should’ve known better.” What a weak comment. They did know better, and so did everyone else…which is why he went 60th overall instead of top 10. But at some point, even a player with a major likely issue is worth taking in case he keeps straight (see: Randy Moss), and apparently the league-wide consensus was that 60th was a bargain place because THE VAST MAJORITY OF ALL FOOTBALL PEOPLE PRAISED THE PICK AT THE TIME. It’s bad enough to be a Captain Hindsight; it’s worse to try to erase recorded history and pretend Gregory was going to go undrafted and mock the Cowboys for being “stupid” enough to take him where they did. In reality, this has been the worst case scenario, and yet even in that Gregory gave the team a quality 2018 and IS STILL AROUND TO GIVE MORE, so the story isn’t done yet. If anything, that proves that he was worth the risk; nobody ever pretended there was no risk, including and especially Dallas.

  6. Go Randy! The Cowoy Nation is pulling for you and I might add, we need you at the DE position. You, Aldon and Dearcus should go get ’em.
